Ashes of democracy blown away in Ohio
The last glimmer of hope for my Democrat State of Ohio went churning into the sea of computer code and was turned into a validation of corruption. I, officially give up. Waving the white flag of defeat, I will retreat into the shadows. Remembering the day when our efforts and votes mattered, I am extremely distraught to have lost the democracy we all love.

When my child was just a baby, I took him into the voting booth with me. His little hand held by mine, picked up the stylus and cast a vote for Bill Clinton. Little did we know that may have been his first and last counted vote? Who would have thought our election process was going to change so dramatically? I, for one sure didn’t.

In a few years he will be eligible for the draft. Without the chance to vote on the President that will take us into war, he may be made to fire mortar on those kids on the other side who have parents who love them in the same way that I love my son. If I can prevent this, I will. I pray that my child’s life is not dictated by some greedy monster dressed up in Presidents clothes.

These past few years I have spent time blaming our party, blaming our Congress, and blaming fellow Americans for not standing up for fair elections. We shouldn’t have to give every waking hour to campaign for a fair election. We shouldn’t have to explain the lies you spin to countless people who have not been able to figure it out. It is time to put the blame where the blame lies. Republicans, I hope you are listening closely. You are responsible for not only killing our children sent to be pawns in an illegal war, but you are responsible for killing other people’s children of a country you have invaded for monetary gain. You have fixed our elections because you know you are not the choice of the American people. You know the only way to remain in power is to control the elections with a corrupt system.

Your people tell me, “If I don’t like it to leave.” Well, I haven’t left yet because America was founded on the freedom of its people. These freedoms include the right to a fair election. You have taken my freedom from me. You have taken freedom from the people you pretend to represent. You have taken freedom from the kids you send to war. The saddest part of your actions are some of our kids will return home in body bags, some will return home with memories haunting them for a lifetime. Let alone what you have done to an innocent country in the name of democracy.

I have no more hope. I have no more choice but to leave this so called democracy. I will not let my son die as a pawn in your circus. My fight to secure a system without corrupt elections is over. In fact, I would love to see all the good Democrats like me flee this country. Leave it to the people you have brainwashed. For if we are all gone, perhaps the people who think you care about them will have to go kill other father’s sons. And, when they are gone, what will you have? An empty country with no one to send to war.

DUers, please do not flame me for my threat to leave. After the selection of 2004, I made a similar threat. I was asked to stay and fight the fight. I did. I worked for election reform. I worked to educate voters of the fraud of 2004. I worked to educate voters on how to clean up our system. I worked to try to keep computers from tabulating our votes. I have stayed and I have fought the battle. Short of some miracle direct hit evidence to trace the fraud to the guilty parties, we have lost. I will stay until we see which way the Fitzgerald investigation is going to turn. If it turns in our favor, maybe we have a chance of returning to a democracy. My plans over the next few months are to begin investigating other places to relocate to. Maybe I will end up in a state with a Democrat in power on the state level, you never know! Even though I reported in my opening line, my glimmer of hope has died; there is still a small ray of hope that streams into my window from time to time. Perhaps this ray will grow into a brightly shining beam, but in the meantime, I plan to begin a different journey.

22. Sorry, have had my head into election reform in Ohio
and hadn't noticed what was happening in VT. Would love to be a part of it. I don't mind working my ass off if there is an attainable goal.

12. It is so hard
:( I hate what these bastards have done to our country all in the name of greed. They don't care anything at all about anyone but themselves yet they proclaim to be the most partiotic and the most religious. I hope you don't give up. It's tiring and draining but you have to think of the future. I won't let these Nazi's take over my country. Stay strong.

5. I empathize, and I am so sorry.
There is clearly massive fraud going on in your state. People can tin-foil me to death, I don't give a shit. There is NO WAY IN BLOODY HELL those props all went that way by that margin. Attack ads aside, it's just not possible.

I think Prague and Amsterdam are starting to look good.

6. Why do you think the Ohio votes were frau and not Va and NJ?
I really have no idea, and I know there were many disenfranchised voters in OH in 04, but it seemed more like preventing people from voting, changing polling places, voter intimidation etc.

Is it possible that Ohio is just a Pub majrity state?

I know the voting tabulation can be rigged, but if the Pubs were going to do that, why wouldnt they have done it in VA? It's a RED STATE! They're going to suffer a lot for their defeat there!

Don't shoot me for this comment. I'm trying to inject a lottle rational into this mess.

7. Out of all the races tonight, I felt prop 5 in Ohio was the most
important. I understand your pain. But there's still hope. There's got to be another 'Fitz' in your state. Some one who understands the importance of fair and honest elections, or a reporter, or activist that will finally get the message across.

I had friends that traveled to Ohio in 2004 and returned with much the same attitude as you. Take some time off. But come back and help us win in another state. When the time is right we'll go back and make Ohio honest.

8. Don't give up.
I haven't posted regularly here in quite a long time.

After the 04 election I decided to focus on my life and my family and not get so emotionally wrapped up in this stuff.

But I have continued to pay attention.

So it is OK to take a break. But stay informed.

I have seen a lot of things change in the past year. A lot of good things. I'm talking about people changin their minds, Dems growing spines and all other kinds of good stuff.

And certainly tonight, aside from the OH results, is a reason for optimism.

Keep the faith! Stay strong.

Peace.

It's quite clear that you've allowed the Republicans to dictate your vocabulary, as well as all else.

20. Seems to me organizers should now push to get ALL DEMS to vote using
Absentee Ballots! Do an end run around the machines....

The state seems like a total disaster. If it's going to stay rooted in anti-voter election law, then going around the system at election time seems to be your only recourse...

26. Thanks all for the support
In the light of day, I am not sure if the reform issues were cooked or if the Republicans just confused everyone enough on these issues to obtain the defeat. I do know cannot trust my vote to a machine and have no faith in the system. Yesterday, I spoke with 10 people at various times throughout the day. Eight out of ten were planning to vote (or had voted) yes on Issues 2-5. The governor has a 15% approval rating and recommended people vote no. It is hard to fathom that anyone would listen to a man who has has so few followers. I do not watch much television, so I haven't seen the commercials. According to the news this morning, the commercials were so confusing that people didn't have a clear idea of which way was the right way to vote. The news also indicated the Democrats did not clearly and concisely support the issues, so people didn't receive a clear message from them either.

Am I ready to give up? In order to have hope, dreams have to be attainable. In Ohio, I see nothing within reach. Should Ohio Democrats move out of the state? Perhaps. I dearly want my voice to matter when I go to the polls. I have no assurances it will happen here, unless I want to wear blinders and buy into the theory that our elections are above reproach. Maybe it would be easier to just become blind to the corruption. But what happens to the day that we all have to take the blinders off? It is hard to wear blinders when you see the affects of the Republicans being in power on a daily basis. I wish I could close my eyes and see prosperity for our State, for our Nation. I close them and see the vast numbers of families who are being thrown out of their homes because their jobs went overseas, or because they fell behind because they had medical bills and no insurance. I close my eyes and see tuition costs rising at a pace to prohibit most middle class from sending their children to college. Visions of our innocent children being hauled off to war without an idea of "why" harden my heart.

The only hope that I have left are the current investigations proceeding with positive results. I will hang on to that hope until it is taken from me as well. In the meantime, as soon as I can afford it, I will travel to stake out a new nest for this future expatriot.

Thanks again for your support and a great big thanks for all who worked hard to attempt to pass these reform issues. Your work has been appreciated for those of us who want change.
