Didn't Trent Lott leak classified information to CNN today?

A TPM reader makes an interesting point:

I don’t think anyone has mentioned this but didn’t Trent Lott himself continue to leak classified information in his comments off camera to CNN today?

If he was in that Republican only Senator’s meeting with Cheney last week and then confirms today that what was in the Dana Priest article last week was classified and discussed behind closed doors with Cheney, the CONFIRMATION of classified information has occurred.

As I recall from the whole Rove / Libby issues even the confirmation of classified information is a violation. Lott has basically confirmed today the off the books CIA prisons are real and that he got a classified briefing from Cheney. He basically confirmed the entire Wapo article, which I believe might be a violation itself!

Still, sometimes classified info must needs be blown ... for sometimes classification is used to conceal evil and wrong doing. Like, for example, in the small matter of American sponsored institutions of torture.

He confirmed what the WP published, but you can't call him a leaker. The info was already public.

When Frist and Hastert called for an investigation of the leak, that confirmed the secret prisons existence.

it was after Frist and Hastert demanded an investigation into who LEAKED CLASSIFIED INFORMATION.

So I guess he was third in the chain of leakers. :evilgrin:

actually come out and state that the leak had to come from a repuke (well, OBVIOUSLY, since they were the only ones at the meeting)

still, I found it interesting--are the rats starting to turn on each other?

Think back. A couple years ago, Chimpy, and/or Fat Karl, and/or whoever else is behind the scenes in this poisonous majority, wanted a new senate majority leader. Lott was thought to be kind of soft--sort of the way Daschle was thought of.

Somehow, Dr. Frist-Mengele got chosen to be the new star.

So then they had to look for just the right place to stick the knife.

Happily, Strom Thurmond died about that time. Trent had to give his "tribute", naturally, but he made the mistake of praising the old codger, and saying that if Strom had been elected president back in 40 B.C., or whenever it was that Strom ran, "America would've been better off." (Yeah... RIGHT!)

Now the little GOP surgeons, along with the good doctor (who had honed his skills playing "Operation" on healthy cats), knew just where the incision should be made. They jumped on Trentie for saying that stuff about Old Strom.

Trent of the Cardboard Hair found himself in a firestorm of criticism, with overtones of "he's a racist!"

Out went Lott. In came Frist. Frist either already was, or became, Chimpy's butt-boy.

Apparently old Trent neither forgave nor forgot.

About a week ago, I saw Dr. Frist-Mengele hyperventilating and screaming, about 3 inches from a camera, that a bad boy named Harry Reid had beaten him up. (The horror... !) There was Trent Lott, standing humbly to the side, and when Dr. Frist took a breath, he stepped up and offered to help him. Awwwwwwww! (But wasn't that a sly grin on Trent's weathered face... ?)

Then, a day or two ago, the good doctor became outraged that somebody had TOLD about a CIA operation involving secret prisons! How dare somebody! Immediately, Dr. Frist prescribed a FULL-FLEDGED INVESTIGATION into this new CIA leak! He even wrote a Real Official Letter.

Not long after that--today, in fact--Trent Cardboard-Head casually told a room full of reporters that the leaker was... a republican senator.

Now Little Billy Frist was twisted into the awkward position of piously calling for an investigation into lawbreaking by... his own boys. Uh-oh. Time for Billy to look silly again!

You may not be old enough to remember "Mr. Bill" from the old Saturday Night Live. "Mr. Bill" was this little clay figure that always got pounded. He had a real high voice and he was always very apprehensive when approached. He'd say, "Oh, nooo, you're gonna be mean to me!"

I think everyone should now call Bill Frist "Mr. Bill."

With Harry Reid as "Mr. Sluggo"!

No, this isn't the normal (?) type of Freeper post. This one (#31)is educating FR why Lott did what he did. Interesting reading.
