Suffolk County New York is BLUE!!!!!
Tonight, Democrats control Huntington, Babylon, BROOKHAVEN!!!

And we took control of the Suffolk County legislature -at present it was 11-7 Republican- with this win, we control the legislature 10-7. It is the first time in 30 years that Democrats have controlled a major ty of towns and the legislature in the County! I worked my behind off for one legislature candidates, Steven Stern. His opponent is the nephew of Charles Gargano, Gov. Pataki's right hand man. THe Democrat won by 9 percentage points. This is a BIG BIG victory for Democrats on Long Island. A great great night!!!

I know how you're feeling. Just like when Suozzi won and now we have Rice instead of Dillon. Congrats!

Rice (D) 51%
Dillon (R) 49%
Reporting 97

10. That is truly unbelievable.
I'm from Stony Brook, my parents from Babylon.

Even after all this time, Bush almost took the county last year. The GOP was a total freaking machine.

It's like republicans taking over the Chicago City Council.

12. Long Island is joining Westchester in the world of blue NYC Suburbs
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 12:29 AM by Ignacio Upton
Rockland County stabbed us in the back by voting for Bush last year, and Putnam, Orange, and Dutchess are still Freeper country populated by a vocal and surprisingly strong minority of Progressives. I think that Putnam and Dutchess will eventually become Democratic, but only slowly.
Spano won re-election, and Idoni won County Clerk. Sadly, Jeanine Pirro's protege Janet DiFiore won the DA race. However, The Democratic candidate, Tony Castro, was not a very good one. He got hammered on the fact that he failed his bar exam several times in both New York and Massachusetts, and the New York Times endorsed DiFiore (she was only one of two other Republicans besides Bloomberg to get their endorsement, which when they announced it, told me that Castro was dead.)

Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 06:27 AM by Danmel
but I'll contribute to whoever runs against him and do some work for that person. My Congressman is a real DINO (Steve Israel) and he isn't the sweetest guy either. I'd love to have a REAL democrat, but he's better than Rick (stop pointing at me) Lazio so we'll have to deal with it for now.

I would also love for Long Island to start sending some Democrats to Albany!

18. This is great! Now, since the decision of which VOTING system to use
has been left up to the counties, would you mind trying to get a paper ballot/optical scan system out there? Assemblyman Thiele, a Repub, would be happy to help out on this particular issue.

See http://nyvv.org/ for more information.

If we can get NYC, Long Is. and Westchester on paper ballots, we can drag the rest of the state with us, and there are already a few upstate counties who are wirh the program.

Did Souzzi win too?
