In effect, California is telling Schwarzenegger "Hasta la vista, baby."

Only Schwarzenegger prop left standing as of 10 p.m. is 75, and its slim margin is getting smaller with each update. Bravo, Californians.

3. So what is Prop 75, and what % of votes are in?
I don't live in Ca. and the networks aren't covering this, I have to ask, what's Prop 75 and are you fairly sure the rest of them were defeated?

6. Forces unions to get written consent from their members before spending...

...union dues for political purposes. Of course unions are against it, businesses favor it, huge amounts of cash were spent on both sides with blanket saturation of TV commercials, both for and against. At this moment, it is winning 51.3% to 48.7%, with 35.2% of the vote counted, but with each update (every 10 minutes) it is either dropping or staying the same. If it ends up losing, it will be a victory for labor unions and a blow to corporate America, Schwarzenegger and the GOP.

5. 75 is the biggie-- if Arnold wins that...
...he's still in the reelection race-- silencing labor is a HUGE boost to the political future of his corporate cronies. And we'd have LIKED to see 79 and 80 pass-- those weren't Arnie's propositions.

7. Hopefully, if 75 does unfortunately pass, there will be a court battle.

8. Why do you think that?
How many union members are really going to vote against a Dem candidate?

I would like to see Aarnuald's props defeated too, but why do you really care about this one? I sure don't think there are very many who would vote against the best interest of the workers and the union.

9. I don't understand why union issues should be put up for a vote?
It's really between the union and it's members. But I guess if every womans uterus is put up for a vote, then it sort of makes sense.

10. labor unions lobby heavily on behalf of liberal policies...
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 01:26 AM by mike_c
...and oppose repressive legislation that hurts working people. They support candidates that are good for working people, and oppose candidates who will work for corporations rather than workers. Unions are more often a powerful lobby for progressive politics than not. Prop 75 seeks to silence union lobbies' participation in politics, while tacitly allowing corporations and shareholders to continue to lobby for repressive legislation and support politicians who are unfriendly to working people.

on edit-- it's not just a matter of how union members vote-- it's a matter of silencing union lobbies for progessive and labor friendly legislation.
