Is Robert Reich a true liberal?
Or is he just an Allen Colmes type of "liberal"? Never heard of this guy before, and a libertarian associate of mine thinks he's nifty-keen. Makes me wonder.
Here's one of his articles that I suspect:

Thanks!

1. He was Secretary of Labor under Clinton. The few times I have heard him he
sounded pretty pro-labor to me.

13. He's pro free-trade.
But overwhelmingly liberal on damn near everything. He even wrote a book defending liberalism called "Reason." Check it out if you can.

Reich has a dry, self-deprecating sense of humor.

23. honestly, people like him and paul krugman are why i went into economics
although taking a sociology class made me switch over to that. Why aren't those required classes? Nonetheless, I wish I could write like those two.

27. He is?
My impression was that Reich believed universal labor and environmental standards are impossible to achieve in free trade agreements.

EDIT: Just did an index search in "Reason." Couldn't find anything, so I may be wrong.

28. Watch the video from UCTV.
I linked it above. I think his ideas have evolved somewhat over time - which is a good thing. I admire people who can say "I thought I was right, but I was wrong, and here's what I've learned."

He is talking about labor standards and trade now.

10. I've gotta say
I'm surprised a libertarian would like Reich.

Reich left the Clinton administration partly over Clinton's push for welfare reform.

He's a good guy. If you haven't heard of him, you should read up on him.

14. Yes... he's definitely in the 99th percentile.
Read Reason: Why Liberals Will Win the Battle for America. (Heck, I'll let you borrow my copy of it electronically if you'll send me an email address in PM and are willing to download Palm Reader.)

Got Dish network? Know someone who does? He's got a great lecture that UCTV runs occasionally called Robert Reich: How Unequal Can America Get Before We Snap?
It's available here: http://www.uctv.tv/library-test.asp?showID=9521

He's incredible. We need more of him. He makes Clinton look like Eisenhower in terms of Leftiness.

18. Reich on Social Security
One of my favorite thing he, or anybody else for that matter, has ever said.

"Creating private accounts as part of Social Security then becomes a way of turning ALL Americans into shareholders. Their financial health then becomes beholden to corporations and are far MORE likely to care greatly about the health of the corporations.

Just think of the consequences of that! Instead of people protesting against corporate polluters, the community is split depending on how much stock you have in the company! And this is a realistic concern if the plan is enacted."

From a speech back in March

I watch him on TV any time I know he's going to be on. He is supportive of unions, and our New Deal social programs that Repugs hate so much.
