The goober one is great. And Arnie with the coloring book: I predict we'll be seeing Photoshopped versions with pretzeldent's head.

20. I don't mean to be a pooper on this party but the wins in New Jersey
and VA are changing of democratic gaurds.

The two big victories were in Dover and California. The rest of the political landscape still seems dominated by repugs.

I see this may be a small victory and I hope its a sign to come but come 2006 I surely hope to see a much more resounding victory than this.

21. NJ was a particular target of the RNC for this year.
If they could turn NJ from its traditional Democratic leanings and get a Republican governor in place, it would do much to bolster the 'shift to the right' picture they'd like to paint in American politics and improve their chances in the 2006 and 2008 elections. The New Jersey governorship has been called the most powerful in the country because there is no lieutenant governor and the governor appoints his entire cabinet. Governor's seats are training grounds for presidential candidates.

The RNC and their various state chairmen concentrated a lot of out-of-state money and out-of-state volunteers in the effort to defeat the Corzine bid; it didn't work. So we won; we didn't just hold, we beat a national Republican effort to wrest control of a blue state away from the Democratic voters. That's doing something....that's important.

So don't discount the significance of the win. It was by no means a sure thing before the fact.

40s seems to be a loss in my book. It's a multiparty state system. The fact that repugs garnered numbers in the 40th percentile should be alarming. They couldn't even run a candidate on the local ticket in my former hometown because no one would vote for them. Now it seems that's changed. The dems were the party machine. The kinks in that machine were laid bare in the past admin. and this election.

They did make it a big focus and the past two elections they've (repugs) been making gains. This is not good IMHO. Now granted people like my wife were mysteriously kicked off the voter roles, so perhaps something fishy is going on. Nonetheless, the repugs should only get majority votes in small pockets of the Northeastern (were the disgustingly rich live) part of the state, some townships in the west and south. But the fact that their share has increased in the central belt comprising the Northeast Corridor for the Penn railroad would trouble me if I were an election strategist. The working class in the Northeast seems to have been slighly nudged right in the same manner the working class in the marchlands have been in the past. Perhaps I'm sounding an unneccessary alarm, but I think these thoughts should be shared nonetheless.

on edit: to cry wolf so to speak.
