Arnold: "It's time to put the special election behind us!"
$??? Million later!

LOS ANGELES - It's time to put the special election behind us, to work together, to stop the fighting.

That's what a chastened Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told supporters Tuesday evening, as California voters rejected three - and perhaps all four - of his "year of reform" ballot measures on the statewide special election ballot. The results were shaping up as a humiliating defeat for the celebrity governor who, until now, has enjoyed virtually unparalleled success in every enterprise he has tried.

With his popularity in tatters after a bruising, multimillion dollar campaign, a smiling Schwarzenegger reaffirmed his goal of bringing lasting change to state government - but this time working with legislators on issues that matter to voters.

"There is much work to be done," Schwarzenegger told supporters as his wife, First Lady Maria Shriver, stood nearby. "We've got to rebuild our infrastructure. We need more schools. We need more firefighters, more teachers ... Californians are sick and tired of all the fighting and all those negative TV ads."

3. His resignation would stop the fighting
"We need more schools. We need more firefighters, more teachers ..." Arnold has had how long now to work on this?

"Californians are sick and tired of all the fighting and all those negative TV ads" Arnold has had how long, and done nothing but cause this?

8. Beyond farce
Let me get this right. So he wanted votes on all these different issues, and now that his party's point of view lost quite badly in all of them, he says he wants to put it behind him?

What an idiot!

I hope he makes next week's list.

9. That was fast!
He gets his ass whupped bad, you bet he wants us to "put it behind us".

Now, he wants to work together. Now, he thinks people are tired of the fighting and the negative ads.

Sure, Arnie. You bet. Whatever, man...

As an expat Californian, I have to say, this was one of the sweetest outcomes imaginable. I love seeing him go down in flames; may he take his party with him.

Hasta la Vista, Babeee!!!

10. Only if he PERSONALLY reimburses the state for the cost!
I say that after yesterday's victory, this is a new beginning of a heightened struggle against Schwarzenegger. We must relentlessly pursue and destroy him politically. He should resign now for this wasteful farce!

Resign!

14. Well you got to know it's kind of a collective thing
There were millions that voted for them also. Arnie is not the brains, he was just the hammer they chose.

Many here knew him to be a liar and fraud. The general public did not but now they have a better understanding maybe. He may have got a lot of his base but he has seemed to have lost that elusive swing voter.
Not even winning a majority vote in minor California election that trend heavily (usually) toward republican is a bad sign for Arnie :donut:

13. Yes. Califawneeyah needs more schools, firefighters, teachers, etc...
But in order to get that, they will need a Democrat in office, because Republicans like Ahhnold just don't seem to give a fuck.

You've been in power for how long and there's still "much work to be done"?!

Show us YOU want to work with us and we might just do so in return. Until then, oogie woogies - you eat boogies.

17. Oh yeah, right. We're supposed to forget that he CALLED this election
So he gets to spend many taxpayer dollars--OUR MONEY--to call his own special statewide election, built solely around increasing his own power at the expense of the state constitution, public workers, etc.

He gets to run negative ads about "a teacher who showed at R-rated movie...." (Was it Schindler's List, perhaps?) and smear all teachers in the process, using our tax dollars.

74 N Teacher Tenure 2,986,287 44.9 3,662,429 55.1

He gets to go after the public workers' unions that he couldn't screw over any other way, using our tax dollars.

75 N Public Union Dues 3,091,713 46.5 3,550,563 53.5

He gets to try and remake the state according to his own dicatates, using taxpayer dollars.

76 N Spending/Funding 2,521,709 37.9 4,114,787 62.1

77 N Redistricting 2,672,882 40.5 3,919,919 59.5

And we are supposed to PUT IT BEHIND US AND WORK TOGETHER?

Yeah, right, fool.

Your secretary of education who ruined San Diego will be next on the hit list. WE WILL WIPE THE FLOOR WITH YOUR SPOILED HOLLYWOOD ASS!
