Damn! What is the matter with Kansas?
I can't even laugh at this BS anymore, despite being an MU fan. This KS school board ruling is just flat out wrong, and quite bizarre. Rather I feel pity for all of the fine, intelligent, reality based folks living in the state who have to put up with this garbage. If these RW fundy school board members keep this up, KS high school graduates won't be able to attend any college outside of the state. Link goes to article with all of the gory details.

Have you Kansas Dems thought about doing a ballot initiative that would do away with ID forever? Might be a good way of doing an end around the loony tunes on the school board.

1. I'm glad you posted
When I first read that story on AOL, I thought it was voted in by the public. Glad you pointed out it was the wacko right-wing board members who voted it in. A couple of parents need to sue the board members and see how quickly the public votes them out like in PA.

3. Oh, I agree that Phelps is out there
But I don't think that he has the pull and influence to ram this ID nonsense through. Rather, I think that what has happened is that throughout the eighties and ninties the RW fundies in KS managed to get elected to school board after school board throughout the state of KS, and then to the state school board. Most of these RW fundies flew under the radar at the time, and people didn't sit up and take notice until it was too late.

Sadly, this is a scene that is being repeated across the country, to greater or lesser success. RW fundies, despite their supposed loathing of public schools are running and winning for school board seats across the nation. Most people don't pay attention to these seats, nor to these candidates until it is too late and they're in power.

Don't take these little seats for granted. If a RW fundy is running unopposed for a school board seat, then step up and run for it yourself. Otherwise more and more states will start regressing like KS is. These people hate public schools and their two reasons for running for the school board seats are to impose their own theological "education" upon the entire public school system, and to destroy the public school system through various methods such as vouchers and such like.

Our educational system has been dumbed down for over thirty five years now, it doesn't need any more "help" from these RW fundy idiots who want to take our country back to the Dark Ages.

4. You're absolutely right. The fundies were very cagey this time
about their true beliefs, so the voters had nothing to go on. A new PAC has formed in response that will scrutinize school board candidates a lot more closely. Don't judge the entire state by the loonies on the BOE!

5. Oh I don't judge the entire state by the few idiots
I know a lot of reasonable, sane, kind caring people from Kansas, and they're even Jayhawks:evilgrin: Besides, living in Missouri I realize that we have the same sort of minority of idiots here that you have there.

One suggestion for you, check the church affiliation of each and every school board candidate, that is always a great indication of what a candidate's real agenda is. If they're from Grace Bible, all's good. If they're from some church with the name "Yaweh" in the title, vote those screwballs down.

I just hope you folks can reign these idiots in. They're starting to come over here to Missouri and colonize in our state:scared:
