Looks like we kicked some major ass yesterday at the polls
We won a good victory for Governor in Virginia, a solid red state. Something to note---Republican Kilgore went even further down in the polls AFTER Bush campaigned for him. We easily held new Jersey's statehouse. Arnold got his ass handed to him.

Maine supports gay rights laws, but unfortunately Texas (no big surprise, but still sad) voted for a gay marriage ban.

Here in Annapolis, we reelected our Democratic Mayor who beat the Republican by 3 to 1, but was closely challenged by an independant who took votes away from both sides. We also kept most of the city Alderman on our side

1. Another great day to be a Dem. We kept Kwame-surprisingly-we
added Monica Conyers (wife of John) to the city council along with Motown legend Martha Reeves. Things are looking a little bit brighter in this ghostown today.

2. About that
"but unfortunately Texas (no big surprise, but still sad) voted for a gay marriage ban"

It was discussed on the Mike Malloy show that the bigots who dreamt this up screwed up the language, meaning all marriage is illegal in Texas!

Read Section 32 (b)! The wording leaves out same sex, I am no legal scholar but to me this would mean ALL marriages are illegal. Is this right?

10. check this section w/ commentary
Ichikawa comments:

Texas cannot recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage! I'm not sure what all would count as identical or similar to marriage, but I do know of one legal status that is definitely identical to marriage: marriage! I didn't realize the Texas legislature was so broadly anti-family.
The plain meaning of the language would certainly seem to ban all marriage and that's not what the lawmakers intended. There's no way that any court would uphold the amendment as it is worded, so I guess marriage is safe in Texas. This incident does, however, demonstrate that the Christian Right's obsession with gay marriage will lead them to do the most absurd and ridiculous things.

6. I really did not expect our dem candidate for mayor here
to win, considering he was so badly outspent by the republican candidate- who also had high name recognition. I'm thrilled to say that our mayor remains a dem!!! Congratulations Mayor Newell!!!

11. Only One Man and One woman. That seems to exclude everybody
who is not the first man and the first woman.

Hey, you want to confuse a fundie?
Ask if Adam and Eve were married?
If not, they were living in sin, and we are all illegitimate.
If they were, then who the hell did the marriage? the snake?
