Mary Mapes on GMA today. Anybody got her book "Truth and Duty"?

Brian Ross was pretty dismissive of her in the the interview but she is getting out her side of the story. I'm going to try to get my library to order it. I sure would like to have this story break wide open. She said she couldn't vouch for the memo's authenticity but still believed her journalistic standards were not diminished because she stood by her story.

Sigh. Will this EVER get out to the sheeple?

She must have a crappy publicist cause there's a lot of light she can shed on this Rather story.

I've long suspected this was a Rove operation to discredit CBS, Rather and Democrats by planting that forgery and then tipping off the right wing blogs that somehow had all sorts of documentation on this thing within hours of the show being aired. IIRC, there were a couple posts in Freeperland BEFORE the show aired already claiming a forgery...now how would they have known that?

Hopefully they can get this lady on AAR, the Daily Show or Countdown...places where her story can get out and we can finally hear the other side of this story.

3. Some DUers would strongly disagree

I've heard from them in other threads. They believe they have evidence that the supposedly anachronistic font really existed back in 1972 when the memo was written. My question to them is "Then why wasn't one of them found somewhere, or a statement from IBM attesting to their veracity?"

Anybody got any other leads on this?

4. Lots Of Loose Ends On This Story

I forgot the finer points...part of my disgust of the 2004 election...but wasn't if the memo was typed, but if the one that had shown up was legit.

My suspicion is based on the quick reaction of blogs like Powerline and the Freepers who yelled foul within hours of the 60 Minutes story being aired...it was obvious they had been tipped off and it seemed to quick and smooth in how their allegations soon made big headlines.

This is one reason I'd like to hear what Mapes has to say before I invest in the book. If this is a "Rather didn't cover my back" and other inside pressroom stuff, I'll wait for Judy's book instead.

6. She was on AAR this AM. Morning Sedition is one of the best shows on AAR.

7. She Needs To Be On More Shows

The local AAR station here isn't listenable in the morning hours and then switches to Springer at 8am, so I suspect I won't hear much Morning Sedition or Randi Rhodes (she comes on here at 5...the station signs off at that time).

Hopefully she'll get on the Daily Show. Maybe we can get a traveling show with Richard Clarke, Mary Mapes, Joe Wilson, Paul O'Neil and others...call it the "I've Been Roved" and keep them in voters eyes and ears next year.
