11. OK, it's pretty boring. I almost thought it was a joke, but I think the
Freeper is series!!!!!!! (sic) Quoting 4 paragraphs:

On the Tuesday evening edition (11/08/2005) of the Colbert Report I was surprised to see a normally super-liberal and irreverent Stephen Colbert seriously challenge Catherine Crier when she lamented that our country would soon start to 'revert' to prayer in school, public display of nativity scenes and menorahs, etc...because of the likes of the Tom Delays and others on the Christian right.

There is not transcript available but Colbert slammed her and Crier was really caught off guard. He basically stated that it was foolish to abandon our moral conscious for the 'public good' and what was wrong with a little religion/faith in public policy, wasn't our country's founders respectful of that tradition?

When Crier then started blathering about separation, he vehemently slammed her saying there was no such thing as separation, staing that it was the intention of the constitution and founding fathers to prevent the Gov't from creating a state religion but not prevent religion to be a part of society and the body politic. he was serious. I have watched this guy for years now and he wasn't setting up a gag.

It was impressive - He told her she was dead wrong and went on to another topic.

14. "no transcript"
Of course there is no transcript, dingbat, it's a comedy show, a parody! Dumbass freepers...

Now it's easier to believe they are now convinced that the CIA is a rogue leftist organization out to get Bush and smear Republicans.

How long has Stephen Colbert been on? Was he on TV before "The Daily Show"? and how long has TDS been on?

111. I offer an alternative interpretation...
... if that poster has indeed "watched this guy for years now" then s/he must understand Colbert's gift with satire. Could s/he not be placing an exquisite irony bomb in the middle of FR? We all know that freepers have an extreme blind-spot for irony.

Maybe I see irony where it doesn't exist, but that's just the rust-coloured glasses I wear.

There's insufficient evidence to prove my hypothesis (and yours TBH, but the average freeper behaviour tilts in your favour). Despite that lack of evidence, I trust that there are brave people on teh intarweb who will wade into such a cesspool, if only to start the pump and stir things up a bit. It's a nicer thought than there being such a moron on this planet.

99. Ching Chong Ding Dong
What makes this particular humorous is that the show opened with Colbert complaining that some bloggers were confused about his "Ching Chong Ding Dong" routine and assumed that they that's how Colbert must be in real life. Colbert admonished his critics by saying, "that wasn't me. That was a character I was playing..."

This was obviously a too subtle a sketch for the freepers to understand.

Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 09:29 AM by Brotherjohn
As discussed here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5300679

Hmmmnnn, that could be the intro to a Colbert Report segment...

"Why All The Fuss About Torturing People?
Didn't a wise man once say -- maybe it was Mohammed -- that 'what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger'? Well, you islamo-fascist rascals, you, hop on the bandwagon! Get on the greatest fitness craze since John Basedow's 'Abs in Steel Vices'! Come on! It builds character! Maybe you wouldn't be so intent upon bombing little Euro-Christian children if you felt better about yourselves!"

But then, they'd probably believe that, too.

It seems these people are so far off the deep end, satire even has a hard time keeping up.

39. Even worse, they think Fox News is a real news channel!
To be fair (and balanced), it's difficult to satirize something as self-parodying as Fox. Hopefully, in some future and saner time, a compendium of Fox News broadcasts will have folks rolling in the aisles.

67. In fairness to the dumbass freepers
they all seem to know that Colbert is making fun of them during most of his show. They just thought that that one particular interview was on the level. And maybe I'm an idiot too, but I wasn't exactly sure if it was on the level either. Colbert didn't have his typical pompous ass tone when making his points. And they were more or less exactly the points right-wingers raise. He usually adds something to make it clear it's satire. For example, he'll say about intelligent design and the big bang, "C'mon, isn't it just easier to believe that the universe was breathed to life instantly by an all-knowing, all-good, omnipresent being. You're 'theory' makes my head hurt." You'd never actually hear someone saying that on the level (though it really is the essentials of the ID belief). Apart from his "public good" comment, which ironically the freeper quoted, and his "you're wrong" line, it didn't seem like satire at all. At best, it seemed like he was playing devil's advocate (no pun intended).

What I don't understand is when she was on Fox she was very conservative, now she's the polar opposite. Maybe this is why the MSM's credibility is at an all time low with the public.
