There's a simple reason why the fundies want big government to fund them
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 09:23 AM by Walt Starr
The problem they have is they are no longer capable of competing within the marketplace of ideas. Their ideas are clearly absurd and more and more people are becoming wise to the fact that they are blowing steam out their ass.

so what other choice do they have but to try and get the government to force feed their phony baloiney myths and outright lies to young children in a depserate attempt to keep their fundamentlaist whacko ideas alive.

Bottom line, they are unable to compete in the marketplace of ideas.

1. Well they make the same argument about us
Unfortunately. And with some justification.

I think the difference however, is that they try to eliminate competing ideas from the public sphere; they can't handle the competition.

2. Nope, GREED, pure and simple.
If they followed the teachings of Christ, they would live modestly and give the rest in his works.

We see that that is not happening.

I'm not saying clergy must live in poverty, but it seems that the big guys live high on the hog.

3. Not just the big guys, either
30 years ago, the priest at my parish was making 50K. The parish was so proud we could pay that much. He was a good guy, decent preacher, but the whole money thing kind of gave him a big head. You could never get in to see him...he was always off at some meeting or another.

This was not a huge church..maybe 500 families.

He lived in a very large house and his wife was in the Junior League and wore designer clothes. It kind of turned me off.

Priests and pastors can get a very inflated concept of their self worth.

4. Do you really think that much thought goes into it?
I believe it's pure and simple entitlement, along with some greed on the part of those who are high enough in the church to know it's really about making money.

People who are sincerely 100-percent sure their ideas are correct and righteous don't need to compete in the marketplace. You'd play hell getting one of them to agree that it's government funding.

5. Could be a bit of retaliation too.

The thinking could be that "Well, Uncle Sam has been helping out those evil secular humanists all those Dem dominated years. Now our guy is in and it's our turn at the trough- we're gonna take it.".

Just a thought.
