CHALABI News Flash: Congressman & Senator Call for Him to be Subpoenaed

Just got word that Congressman George Miller and Senator Richard Durbin, in a joint news conference, will be calling for Ahmad Chalabi to be subpoenaed.

Good call.

6. Well, if they're going to use torture, I suggest we round up all
the Bush cabal and stick needles under their toenails until they tell us what we want to hear!

}Not sure what smiley to put here, something like eyes rolling and sarcasm, but then again maybe not{

Webster's Collegiate definition:
oleaginous adj. oily; greasy; unctuous

The perfect description...thanks annabanana!

8. This is TERRIFIC...
but, it would be helpful to know for what specifically he is being supoenaed. Is there a potential of charges against him personally, or is he only going to be asked to provide testimony in other investigations?

Keep us updated!

13. Aaahh, here are the specifics...thank you. Miller said,
<snip - from link posted above>
As the Senate concludes its investigation into the administration's use of false and misleading intelligence to make the case for war, no such inquiry would be complete without Mr. Chalabi's testimony under oath. While he is sashaying around the streets of Washington, D.C., the Senate Intelligence Committee and the House Intelligence Committee may want to issue a subpoena for his presence. He has offered to testify, but no intelligence agency of the United States has interviewed him, nor has the FBI, as we learned today.

He should be detained in this country until he gives that testimony. I know I speak for all Americans when I say that our idea of democracy is not propping up a bank swindler, kidnapper and extortionist whose lies and deceptions contributed to the 14,000 U.S. soldiers injured and over 2,000 killed in action and is an intractable quagmire with no end in sight. Americans deserve the truth about the Bush administration's manipulation of intelligence to justify this tragic war.

Calling the cops to arrest Mr. Chalabi, while he is here, so he can be interrogated, would be a good beginning to understand how extensive the manipulation, how false the evidence was, that caused the President to take us to war and which was championed by the Vice President and the President and the cabal to try to justify to the American citizens the reason for this war.

Mr. Speaker, call the cops. Mr. Chalabi should not be allowed to run free on the streets of this Nation's capital.

14. More here:

snip//
ongressional Democrats, some of whom assert that their votes three years ago in favor of invading Iraq were based at least in part on the intelligence linked to Mr. Chalabi, are pressing him to come to Capitol Hill to answer questions about that issue.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., sent Mr. Chalabi a letter signed by himself and 17 other Democratic House members asking for a meeting "to discuss his role in manipulating the intelligence that led to war with Iraq."

Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., issued a statement yesterday calling on the Senate and House intelligence committees to subpoena Mr. Chalabi for testimony "about his role in providing false intelligence about Iraq and leaking U.S. secrets to Iran."

Mr. Chalabi's trip to Washington comes just a few days after he met with Iranian leaders, and he has done little to dampen speculation that he is carrying a secret message from Tehran.

Last year, allegations were raised that he passed on to Iran classified information that the United States had broken the messaging code for Tehran's intelligence service. An inquiry by the FBI into the allegations is pending.

15. Shouldn't he just be arrested?
Was I imagining things a while back, I thought he sold some of our plans to Iran, seems to me a charge of espionage might be appropriate.

16. No worries for Bush/Cheney here.
Chalabi can be trusted not to throw them under the bus.
