How many voters had the paper ballot option yesterday?
I voted in VA (small town- northern VA) and I was given the option of either a paper ballot or a machine ballot.

This seemed to me to be a very fair methodology -and BTW many more folks opted for the paper ballot than the machine ballot.

Thoughts?

1. How were the paper ballots
counted? Someone here said they voted with paper and pencil but the ballots were tabulated by machine.

2. Same here
They were put into a counter - actually I put it into the counter - but those counters have been around for many many election cycles.

3. That is how we always vote
but there was some suspicion around here as to how they were counted. Just wondered.

4. I voted on a provisional ballot
For some reason I was listed as 'inactive voter' and was dropped from the roles. Very weird since I have never missed an election.

Still it wasn't difficult. I did a paper ballot that I had to bubble my votes and got a receipt.

5. It is how they are counted not how they are voted...

We just gave up paper ballots hand counted in Lincolnville Maine. It made me sick watching my paper sucked into that scanner, knowing the acubasic program on the memory card was deciding what my marks meant. I felt my privacy was violated because my ballot was unfolded and visible, and I felt sick because I knew no human would count my ballot as I intended, just a computer program. When I said to the grandmotherly women standing over the machine (to make sure I stuck the paper in properly) that I thought it was horrible, she looked at me defiantly and said, "Its WONDERFUL!". I said, that I have no way of knowing that my vote was counted, and she pointed to the little screen that shows how many scans there have been and said triumphantly "There it is!". All I could think was Nana goes mad...

edited for bad sentence...
