"I don't give a damn if I did vote to authorize the use of force!"
"It was a fucking mistake based on a fucking lie and I am fucking sorry that I, among others, was bamboozled by this administration!"

That's the answer the Dems should be giving and giving it everytime they are accused of voting for the war.

6. Cheney set a lot of precidents, doesn't mean we should
necessarily copy him- I agree with the statement that it doesn't matter, what i said then, i was lied to-

* ran on so many platforms that he has done a complete 180 on that its almost funny, if it weren't so somber- like 'nation building' 'integrety' 'honesty' 'responsibility'

oh geez, just thinking about it makes me sick-

Cheney told someone to go fuck themselves- FAR worse than using the f word to describe intensity of feeling- But even still, letting him dictate what exceptable behaviour is, would leave us all in the shit house saying "yeah, but HE did it"- i don't buy that from my kids, i shouldn't buy it for myself, and other adults i respect.

peace

4. Sorry, but that answer doesn't cut it.
Not in light of the fact that literally millions of people here in the US saw through Bush's bullshit. I'm sorry, but if somebody is that stupid that they can be fooled by Bush, then they don't deserve to be in office.

Secondly, if our so called leaders had simply done their primary job duty, ie be the collective voice of their constituents, then they wouldn't be in this position right now. Millions of messages to the Hill were running 268-1 against the IWR. Millions of people out in the streets nationwide were saying NO to the IWR. Each and every single major poll showed that the vast majority of Americans didn't want to do a thing, including voting for the IWR, until the inspectors had finished their job. Instead, our leaders failed in doing their primary job duty and voted for the IWR. Such spectacular failure can and should be rewarded with only one thing, firing the person.

And third, if they're so damned sorry, and if it was such a huge mistake, why are they continuing to compound each and every single time they vote yes on the war funding bills

I'm sorry, but just because somebody has a D behind their name doesn't mean that they should get an automatic pass. If we want good government it is up to us to hold our leaders responsible. Giving them a pass, especially on an issue like this illegal, immoral war, only encourages them to commit even more stupid shit. Where does it all end?

Sorry but if your rep voted for the war, it is time for them to go. That's what primaries are all about. No free pass.

7. Simple answer. Doesn't matter what old intel Clinton read or Bush fixed,
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 02:19 PM by blm
it was all inoperable the moment that WEAPONS INSPECTIONS began and REAL-TIME, ACCURATE INTEL was being sent back to Bush for the two months before he alone made the determination based on that intel and invaded Iraq...as per the IWR.

Get caught up in blaming the IWR and "Clinton's intel" and all the other bullshit and you miss the most simple and the most damning answer.

8. many of them
were briefed in the house and senate with bogus info-
If i were to use the standard you state, every elected official that voted for going into Afganistan should go too- There is no tangible evidence that we've accomplished anything there of lasting value, other than giving peoples need for revenge a measure of satisfaction.

the Taliban weren't our 'enemies'- or a threat to us, regardless of their offensive political system. The system of war-lords, isn't much better- and gave bush the propellant to do the kind of crap he's been doing since-

i protested any military 'retrubution' for 9/11- and the iraq disaster- violence has never really overcome anything in the long run.

10. Answer me this then friend
How can millions upon millions of people, ordinary American citizens get it so damn right, yet our so called leaders get it so wrong?

It isn't about bogus information, it isn't that our leaders were duped. What they did was make a purely political decision in an election year. In other words they decided to take the cowards way out and try to look tough so that they could get re-elected. And gee, look what that political decision has cost us now:eyes:

If our reps had done their primary job duty, ie represent the collective will of their constituents, then we wouldn't be in this sorry situation now would we. And tens of thousands of innocents would still be alive. Instead, they're dead, and every single damn person who voted for the IWR has blood on their hands and should damn well be held accountable. If we don't, then the same shit is going to happen again and again ad nauseum. And then it will be you and I who have blood on our hands. Can you live with that? I know I certainly can't.

13. You are exactly right!
If I was going to send our military into harm's way, I would make damn sure that the intelligence reports I was being given were accurate. Many of us saw through the bullshit and didn't have access to the info that they had.

I think I would have to question any intelligence from a drunk named "Curveball." Those that voted for this war did so to prevent being called "un-patriotic". This "if we knew then what we know now" excuse is absolute bullshit.

It makes me angry that this excuse is even being used. If you voted for the war, you fucked up...there is no going back now.

21. to all who disagree with me above-
you have that right- and while i too wish they'd not voted to give bush the power to even wipe his butt after taking a bowel movement, i'd far rather have them say they regret NOW what they did then.
Unlike many who stand by their actions even when they are proven 100% wrong.
Also- and i must point this reality out to you- the authorization was to use force ONLY after all other remedies had failed- and while we all know he intended to go to war come hell or high water, bush should be held as THE head f-up in this.
I've long ago given up believeing there is a perfect politician- even Bill Clinton said the war was 'right'- at the time. And he had nothing to lose by speaking out for the truth.
As for the reps. speaking for the majority of their constuitients- thats something out of "Oz" as well. Just like the idea that we elect a president by voting for him- "WE" (the majority of the voters who got off our asses and voted in the last election DID vote in Kerry-) the electoral college did away with every vote counting.

Its fine to vent your anger and frustration at the state of this world, and the reasons we are in the place we are, but if you are going to say- "you voted for the war so you are dead to me" how are you any different than those who vote for anyone who declares themselves to be for over-ruling roe v. wade? -- regardless of any other positions the candidate may take that effect more than this one issue.??

I sure as hell am not perfect- being willing to learn from my screw-ups, and admit my failures is the best i can do- there aren't any 'do-overs' to life.

peace

This post is directed an post #7

I certainly knew that the WMD info was bogus, you probably knew it too. Hell, millions upon millions of people around this country knew it also, or at least suspected such and did not, repeat did not want to do a damn thing until the inspectors finished their job.

If our so called leaders had simply performed their primary job duty, that is to give voice to the collective wishes of their constituents, then we wouldn't be in this mess and tens of thousands of innocents wouldn't be dead. Instead our so called leaders decided to put their own politcal well being ahead of the lives of innocents and voted for the IWR. And they all have that innocent blood on their hands. And if we continue to reward such bullshit, then you and I will also have the blood of innocents on our hands.

It is high time that we held our so called leaders accountable, not just for this but for all of the atrocities they have voted for over the will of the people. If we don't hold them accountable, who will? And how in the hell are things going to change if we don't. This is government of the people, by the people and for the people. We are the boss friend, it is about time we started acting like it.

9. Thanks for saying that
All it means is they lacked the political will to stand up to a "popular" president. They were afraid of being, rightly, weak on terrorism.

But, if I knew the WMD claim was bogus, as did the UN inspectors, and Scott Ritter, SO DID THEY!

5. You can get fired from your job for parking over the line
I worked at a place where you could get fired if you parked your car over the line twice. You could be fired for being late 3 times. But here we have Congress abandoning its Constitutional duty and letting an illegal war ruin our overstated reputation in the world, kill thousands of our soldiers and tens of thousands of Iraqis.

It is time for the bosses, WeThePeople, to fire the entire management team and sweep Congress clean. I want them all out of our seats and without exception. Fire them all and don't sort them out.

19. I called it "The Rock"
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 03:40 PM by firefox
In North Carolina you can be fired without cause because it is a "Right to work" state. Company policies tend not to be so harsh and union contracts do not let this happen.

Burlington Industries was a big textile company out of Greensboro and they had a plant in Mooresville. You could get fired on the spot for taking one piece of dust cotton because it cotton was recycled for money and it was zero tolerance to fire someone for taking any amount. One day a woman split her pants and put a piece of scrap denim there. I am not really sure if they fired her, but I think they did. Somebody sure made an issue out of it or it would not have reached the whole plant.

Burlington was nothing compared to The Rock.

Anyway, what gets me is how everyone thinks these 535 people in Congress are so special even when they, at least collectively, let the country go to hell or even MIHOP instead of LIHOP. We need new blood and we need an environment that makes a good candidate think he has a chance to win when we now have a 98% chance of re-election by an incumbent. Candidates need a wind and that wind needs to be Sweep Congress Clean. Even if it is a slight wind we might give some reason to voice opposition and run for Congressional office.
