Hey Guys, help this Canadian put all these votes in Context
I was watching CNN and it looked like for the most part our side came oout on top. Arnold Schwarzenegger seemed to really get dumped on, which is nice.
So, can anyone put all this into context for a foreigner?

3. OK
California- Arnold is done; the Props he championed all failed.

NJ and Virginia both elected Democratic Governors and kept them on the Dems side.

In St. Paul, Minnesota, the Democratic (DINO) who endorsed W in the 2004 election was soundly trounced by another Democrat in the Mayor's race.

In Maine, a ballot measure that would have overturned equal-rights protection for Gays and Lesbians was defeated.

And a number of smaller elections around the country were won by Democrats; too many to name...

On the other hand:

Texas banned same-sex marriage, and Kansas passed "Intelligent Design" for it's school textbooks.

All in all, it was a great day for the Democrats, and a very, very bad day for the W/Rove wing of the GOP, and an whitewash/slight loss for the Fundie Wing..

4. The impact is less than the symbolism...
New Jersey was a GOP stronghold for years and years and for the first time in like 80 years they've got a Democratic majority in the legislature and a Dem governor.

Virginia was also Dem until the 80s and for the last 25 years has been living under the dark republican shroud. Probably sick of the fact that they have some real problems stemming directly from republican party line policies, they've opted for a change.

Maine has gained back it's sanity when it comes to education where as Kansas has sent their educational system into the "Little Outhouse on the Prairie". California are beginning to realize that Arnold can govern about as well as he can act. And Minnesota is realizing that DINOs have no place in city government.

Ultimately the impact of the elections is symbolic, but necessary to begin a ball rolling toward the ultimate goal of bringing sanity and critical thought back to the body politic. Democrats are the only ones who can do that. They are willing to question even each other, spun as a weakness by the GOP, now the GOP is realizing that with such a fanatical and closed minded party line that things can unravel quickly and in 2006 they see how decisively.

5. Hey, Arnie can act better than he can govern
and that is not by much!

But he did a fairly good COnan (best fantasy movie ever, for Dungeon and Dragons Fans) and I just love the sound track... but he can act better than he can govern... we know there are people advising arnie, and some of them go back to the last Repuke administration

7. It's funny that in his best acting job...
...he didn't even have a speaking part until about 20 minutes into the movie.

"Conan, what is best in life?"

"To clush yoah enemees. To see them driven befoah you. And to heah de lamintations of de women."

8. You are right, Conan was absolutely fantastic...
me being a long time WFRP fan. But, with that kook Pete Wilson (the same guy who first seriously proposed the construction of a great border wall) advising the Losernator, Arnie isn't going to get anything done. He might as well go golfing and let Maria ride out the rest of his term.

6. People are fed up.
Even those who cannot find the courage to publicly admit it. California was afraid that the rain would keep voters away from the polls and hand the Gropenator a victory. They didn't count on those who saw 300million bucks being dumped down the drain on initiatives that were so damaging to so many - or saw * humiliated at every stop on his trip or saw Cheney defend torture - along with so many others misteps and scandals.

Like Howard Dean said: "Enough is enough".
