2. That is the most convoluted thing I have ever read.
I have never cared about what the Catholic League has to say about anything. I remember how batshitcrazy they got over Dogma.

6. I just emailed the link to my whole family
We run about 50/50 Democrat/republican. If I get even one of them not to shop at Wal-Mart I'll count it as a success.

19. He eludes to it here
http://www.catholicleague.org/05press_releases/quarter%204/051108_robinson.htm

" Responding today is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:

“Gene Robinson is a walking embarrassment to Episcopalians everywhere, and is profoundly ignorant of what has been happening to his own church. Had he read David Shiflett’s splendid book, Exodus: Why Americans are Fleeing Liberal Churches for Conservative Christianity, he might have been able to connect the dots: it is because of people like him—a practicing homosexual—that his church is imploding. And prior to Shiflett’s work we had the ground-breaking volume by professor Thomas C. Reeves, The Empty Church: Does Organized Religion Matter Anymore. His book is also about what happens when the likes of Robinson assume power."

See, the "gay-priests are the entire problem" push? All the pedophilia is blamed on them and no-one and nothing else. Donahue is not alone in pushing this crap line of thinking.

11. I took his challenge.

"Go to its website and search for Hanukkah and up come 200 items. Click on Kwanzaa and up come 77. Click on Christmas, and here's what you get: 'We've brought you to our 'Holiday' page based on your search.'"

It did present the message he mentioned. And directly below that it provided a link to a list of "7970 items found for 'christmas'".

So Mr. Donohue is offended that Wal-Mart is not using "Christmas" as a synonym for "Holiday". Then takes further offense when Wal-Mart's website does use "Christmas" as a synonym for "Holiday" because Wal-Mart wishes to make the search easier for many of their customers who use "Christmas" as a synonym for "Holiday".

There's just no pleasing some people.

12. Why do conservatives think liberals are trying to steal their Christmas?
1. It's not possible. No law can keep God out of a school, no policy can prevent Christmas from coming. Not even dumping all the presents off of Mt. Crumpett. When the White House has a Christmas tree....
2. There's a difference between expecting government to be neutral on religion and expecting private citizens to not express their Christmas joy. No one is asking for the latter.

13. I had never heard about
the aminita mushroom connection.

"The colors associated with ‘christmas’ red and white are actually a representation of of the aminita mascera mushroom."

That's interesting.

16. Little known fact:
December 25 was also the pagan sun god's day of worship, that is why Christmas is on that day also.

21. If it wasn't for the fact that Christ was actualy born sometime in fall
according to the Bible (which places his birth sometime in late September or early October by most counts), they might have a point.

But, since they're off base as usual, the argument is pointless :).

18. Donahue is a idiot

I talk to Catholics of both major stripes. One common thing is that both the more progressive/liberation ones and many tradionalist ones do talk about WalMart's employment and other business policies.

Donahue seems to toe the Fundie-political line and he is out of step in the Church. There is a Diocese-wide policy to not buy things from WalMart and go other places. This is pushed from the Bishop on down.

I have not heard ONE word about the "Happy Holidays" red herring.
