maybe it's time for aruba to stop it by sending troops to iraq?

1. with all the truly important things going on, WHY is the sen spending time
on this situation on the senate floor? boycott aruba? because a person went missing? this is totally absurd--talk about red herrings.

discussing and passing laws for the Schiavo episode. A diversion from the real issues facing this country.

Most of those people you listed are in places pretty far away from where they live. None are in the Birmingham area.

25. .
I just find this media/political obsession with this girl strange and, besides the pretty blond angle, I wondered if these contributors aren't part of that family. Maybe not, but there has got to be some angle here...this has been 6 months of coverage for this story. Yes, it's tragic but this attention is bizarre.

although I stumbled on Riley's press conference yesterday.

now, what exactly has Aruba done? let someone go despite overwhelimg evidence? not let the FBI investigate? obstructed justice? kicked the mother out of the country? I'm serious. What's the rationale?

26. no fan of Shelby, but...
I'm not a Shelby supporter, but I think the reason he doesn't show up on the talk shows anymore is because he is no longer a member of the Intelligence committee, which he was when he was showing up on the talk shows.

And regarding that list of Holloways and Twittys and political contributions, well, that's just bullshit. Holloway is a very common name in that part/my part of the country. The Holloways in that sad story are not even from Alabama. They live in Mississippi and may even be from Arkansas originally. The Twitty's on that contribution list are on opposite ends of the state and the Twitty family in question live in the Birmingham area. So basically that list was just pulled from someone's ass.

My theory is the family will take help wherever they can get it and I don't blame them. You're entitled to your opinions, but some of them aren't worth crap.

30. How many troops have died from Alabama?
Has Shelby spent any time on the floor, demanding to know why they died, now that he knows the lies that were told to get us into this war?

As far as the list of Holloway donors, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were relatives. Nothing else can explain this wall to wall coverage of one missing woman and our government demanding a boycott of a sovereign nation because of it. It's utterly ridiculous and out of all proportion. But I'm sure people from around the world will now flock to Aruba. Way to further alienate the world from this country.

We know that people who have lost loved ones will 'take help wherever they can get it' and we don't blame them either. The problem is, of all the thousands of missing people, only one gets this kind of coverage, and they are alienating more people every day with their bullying tactics.

Can you explain why the media is not reporting on all the missing children who have not been found? Or the over 7000 missing people from NOLA? This family has had months of coverage (except for a brief respite during the hurricane) Beth Holloway didn't want to talk about the hurricane victims when she was asked about them. That's when she lost all my sympathy.

I will not boycott Aruba, in fact I may go there and ask the people of Aruba to not judge this entire country by the fringe elements that have taken over our media.

I think that until Alabama finds all the missing people in their own state, they should be boycotted ~

32. like I already stated,
I'm no Shelby fan. He used to be a Democrat until Clinton hurt his feelings over something completely ridiculous.

I don't know how many Alabamians have died in the war, but I'd be willing to bet that it is a disproportionate number considering the poor and middle class are fighting this war. Shelby supported the war just like John Kerry and John Edwards. I supported Howard Dean and had hoped that I would get to vote for him, but that didn't happen.

I'm not here to defend Shelby's actions regarding the war. I don't agree with him on anything, as far as I know. No one from the Republican party is seriously questioning the lies that led to the war, except a few like John McCain and Chuck Hagel. I am willing to give Shelby the benefit of the doubt regarding the timing of this Aruba talk. It coincides with the family and the governor of Alabama asking for the boycott.

But it pisses me off when people spout off about my home when they don't know what they're talking about. And some of the stuff in this thread is just piling on bullshit. I'll bet your dead wrong about those political contributors. None of them are from Dave Holloway, a resident of Mississippi or George or Beth Twitty. The Twitty's on that list were from Hazel Green on the Tennessee line and Dothan on the Florida line. The Holloways aren't even from Alabama. Posting something like that as the truth is just hysterical bullshit along the lines of a Limbaugh or Hannity maneuver.

Also, I saw an interview months ago where Beth and her husband were asked what US government officials had contacted them with offers of help and as she was listing a few, I heard her husband mention the name Don. He was referring to Don Siegelman, the former Democratic governor of Alabama and current candidate for governor. With the casualness of how he mentioned him by first name, I wouldn't be surprised if they were Democrats. Would that make a difference in your condemnation?

I didn't see or hear Beth Twitty(the name is Twitty, not Holloway)refuse to discuss the hurricane victims, but if she was asked about that I'm guessing it was to put her in the position to have to defend the search for her daughter and if I were in that position I wouldn't get into a debate on that subject, either.

I can't speak for the media. I do remember quite a bit of NOLA coverage. And I do remember the coverage of the missing children. I completely support that. If my child were missing under any circumstances I would want as much coverage as I could get, as I'm sure Beth Twitty wants. I don't believe anyone thinks Natalee is more important than any other missing person. But she isn't worthless, either. And her family is doing everything they can to find out what happened.

I don't care one way or the other regarding the boycott of Aruba. I wasn't going anyway. I can't afford that kind of luxury. But I have followed the case and it is apparent that the case was screwed up, most likely because of a privileged kid with governmental connections. So go to Aruba for all I care. Go missing while you're there for all I care. I wonder how your family would feel and what they would do if that happened?
