ORMET closed their Hannibal Ohio rolling mill
http://www.mariettatimes.com/news/story/new43_118200581047.asp

The paper says 500 hourly --that must mean the scabs that have run the mill, since USWA union has been on strike for almost a year.

The bankruptcy court allowed Boyle/ORMET to break the contracts, take away most of the health benefits of retirees, but I guess it wasn't enough. I never dreamed that US judges would ruin so many lives. The judge who ruled it was ok for Boyle/ORMET to break the contract is Barbara Sellers in Columbus OH. Instead of the absolutely negative thoughts I have for hagridden bitch, I wish I could find something positive to think about, but I'm not in the mood to be a better person.

Our family is grateful to the real businessmen who owned this plant in the 50's 60's and 70's who maintained a safe and friendly workplace and insured their employees got a decent wage and benefits. Its amazing that up until the mid-80's businessmen knew how to run a company without screwing the employees sideways to make a profit. So much for MBAs --back to the drawing board you corporate failures. But in spite of hoping for the best, we knew the writing was on the wall when Boyle and his slimy pals got their hands on our plant in the 90's.

As a retired family, we are also grateful to the active union members who stayed on the line trying reverse the inevitable. I'm not sure who is worse off now--the young families with no prospects or the older families who have the rug pulled out.

1. Will the last person to leave Ohio please turn off the lights?
My family worked for US Steel in Youngstown -- it's now a prison.

What ever happened to this state of ours?

:(

2. I worked for Republic (LTV) Steel in Cleveland for 31 years
So sad. All of the good paying jobs are leaving the region. So many families getting screwed.

3. Republic Steel? We had Republic in Youngstown, too.
And I firmly believe that labor unions made this country -- good paying jobs were good for our economy.

My grandfather told me what it was like to work in a steel mill before unions; not a very pretty place for an uneducated immigrant worker.

Most of my family worked in the mills. They bought homes, educated their children, led good lives.

I fear for my country.

5. Thank you
We're glad that my husband took early retirement--it was mainly because the work environment got so ugly after Boyle got the plant and it was so stressful. I'm sure we'll be ok, but I am worried sick over the others who don't have anything to fall back on. (course I worry about all of the plant workers who have lost everything because of greedy incompetent jerks who get off on this kind of mismanagement. Its like they're in a contest to see who can ruin the most lives)

6. Oh Get Real!!!
If only you folks would work for 5 bucks per day, forfeit your health benefits, retirement and overtime pay, tear up your union cards and ignore those annoying safety/health laws, our corporate masters wouldn't be forced to move their factories to third world countries and shovel their profits into overseas tax shelters.

Get with the program!

:sarcasm:
