http://www.mariettatimes.com/news/story/new43_118200581047.aspThe paper says 500 hourly --that must mean the scabs that have run the mill, since USWA union has been on strike for almost a year.
The bankruptcy court allowed Boyle/ORMET to break the contracts, take away most of the health benefits of retirees, but I guess it wasn't enough. I never dreamed that US judges would ruin so many lives. The judge who ruled it was ok for Boyle/ORMET to break the contract is Barbara Sellers in Columbus OH. Instead of the absolutely negative thoughts I have for hagridden bitch, I wish I could find something positive to think about, but I'm not in the mood to be a better person.
Our family is grateful to the real businessmen who owned this plant in the 50's 60's and 70's who maintained a safe and friendly workplace and insured their employees got a decent wage and benefits. Its amazing that up until the mid-80's businessmen knew how to run a company without screwing the employees sideways to make a profit. So much for MBAs --back to the drawing board you corporate failures. But in spite of hoping for the best, we knew the writing was on the wall when Boyle and his slimy pals got their hands on our plant in the 90's.
As a retired family, we are also grateful to the active union members who stayed on the line trying reverse the inevitable. I'm not sure who is worse off now--the young families with no prospects or the older families who have the rug pulled out.
