Army admits to using white phosporus...Field Artillery Magazine
This breaks my heart. Have not read the pdf file yet, but I trust the poster. The "shake and bake" reference is so cold and chilling.

US Army Admits Use of White Phosphorus as Weapon

(Cross-Posted at Daily Kos)
That's right. Not from Al Jazheera, or Al Arabiya, but the US fucking Army, in their very own publication, from the (WARNING: pdf file) March edition of Field Artillery Magazine in an article entitled "The Fight for Fallujah":

"WP proved to be an effective and versatile munition. We used it for screening missions at two breeches and, later in the fight, as a potent psychological weapon against the insurgents in trench lines and spider holes when we could not get effects on them with HE. We fired 'shake and bake' missions at the insurgents, using WP to flush them out and HE to take them out."

In other words the claim by the US Government that White Phosphorus was used only for illumination at Fallujah had been pre-emptively debunked by the Army. "

1. Sadly, this is still legal. It's only illegal to use it in civilian areas
The real scandal is what's legal, not what's illegal.

War is awful.

2. An "incendiary" weapon
is what I think they called it when I was in basic training in 1980.I guess that means its purpose was to start fires? This info was given to us with a "nudge, nudge, wink, wink". We were told about other weapons that were not supposed to be used against troops, only against the enemy's equipment. We were also told that the enemy's field jacket, helmet, boots, etc. were all part of his equipment. It doesn't surprise me that white phosphorus, or "willie pete" is being used against troops. Whether the weapons are sticks and stones or napalm, the point is that this war is wrong and unjust and needs to end.
