PDA Makes Another Congressional Endorsement: Tony Trupiano!
By William Rivers Pitt

Tony Trupiano is a force of nature -- a man of tremendous accomplishment who has succeeded at virtually everything he has tried. He is a leading voice in progressive talk radio, he has written books, and teaches a seminar on the effective use of media. Now he is running for office, and he needs your help.

Mr. Trupiano is running for the House seat in Michigan's 11th District, which covers the greater metro Detroit area. His opponent, two-term incumbent Thaddeus McCotter, has not announced his candidacy yet, but it is only a matter of time before he does. It would be a worthwhile exercise to run a bag of doorknobs against McCotter, who votes with the GOP caucus 93% of the time and voted with Rep. Tom DeLay 92% of the time. Beyond this, Mr. McCotter has amassed a profound record of doing little to nothing for his constituents. He needs to go.

Tony Trupiano ain't no bag of doorknobs. "I see the trends in this district moving much more blue," he says. "I have been talking to the constituents in the 11th, and they are ready for a change. I have a passionate progressive message the district is ready to hear."

Ask Mr. Trupiano what he stands for and you will get an avalanche of progressive ideas. "I stand for universal health care," he says. "I will work to reorganize these free trade agreements. I will work to cut the deficit in half, and will work to repeal some of these Bush tax cuts. I want to see a universal, acceptable K-through-16 education policy that makes college accessible to every American."

"With a Democratic Congress," he says with deep emphasis, "we will immediately begin impeachment hearings against this President." Why impeachment? Mr. Trupiano offers a one-word answer: Iraq. "Every American that dies is blood on the hands of the President," says Trupiano.

"What is the Pentagon's plan? What is the exit strategy? The idea that diplomacy doesn't work is a farce. We haven't done enough, and this administration's handling of the situation has been a disaster."

Progressive Democrats of America is proud to endorse Tony Trupiano in his race for Michigan's 11th District House seat. "The PDA endorsement is a gift," says Mr. Trupiano. "I will make PDA proud."

Support this endorsement and others!

3. I thought I'd open this thread and see that YOU were that candidate!
Don't know why, it was just a hunch. Of course I'll support Mr. Trupiano. I have a friend who lives in Michigan and is actually a city councilman now. We were in the Air Force together. Perhaps someday soon, I'll be asking you for your support of him in a national election.

6. Can DFA support him too?
Or does the PDA endorsement cancel that out? Maybe you could suggest it to DFA.

10. I've been blown away by the caliber of House candidates we're getting
this year. Its early, and we already have some kick-ass prospects including SEVERAL Iraq vets, a former pro-ball player, and some solid progressives. Our prospects for taking back the house are getting better with every new candidate I hear of.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be following Tony.

Sandy Levin's district, so I'm not far from him.

I heard Tony speak at Conyer's town hall last July. He was an excellent speaker.

12. But, but, but, Thaddeus is soooo nice, they say.
Which is what they said about our Senator Abraham.
Which is what they say about any RepubliCON.

13. Here's a link to a website regarding that district
http://11demo.blogspot.com/

I was trying to determine the partisanship tendencies. Someone on that link posted it's basically a 55-45 Republican district while another person at very bottom indicated a Democrat with a "modicum of skill and a bit of luck could pull it off." Definitely a worthwhile target.
