Published: October 27, 2005

WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 - At the nexus of two high-profile investigations roiling the nation's capital is an unlikely - and largely anonymous - figure known for fiercely safeguarding her bosses.

Susan B. Ralston, 38, has worked as an assistant and side-by-side adviser to Karl Rove since 2001, helping manage his e-mail, meetings and phone calls from her perch near his office in the West Wing. That has made her an important witness in the C.I.A. leak investigation, as the special prosecutor has sought to determine whether Mr. Rove misled investigators about his contacts with reporters about Valerie Wilson, the undercover operative whose identity was made public in 2003.

Ms. Ralston is also entangled in another political scandal: the case of Jack Abramoff, the Republican lobbyist, who employed her in the same frontline capacity during a stretch of time that is now under criminal investigation.

Ms. Ralston is not considered a suspect in either case, and several close colleagues say it is by sheer accident that she has been swept up in both investigations. Lawyers involved with the two cases say no other person besides Ms. Ralston has played a pivotal role in each one. She has appeared at critical junctures in both: it was Ms. Ralston who patched through a phone call from Matt Cooper, the reporter for Time magazine, to Mr. Rove on the day in July 2003 that they discussed Mrs. Wilson, then known by her maiden name, Valerie Plame. And Ms. Ralston, while in Mr. Abramoff's employ, drafted a memorandum about his suites at local arenas, which he used to entertain clients and public officials who have since gotten in trouble for accepting his favors.

21. It's still sort of out there... here's more recent stonewalling...
US envoy summoned on Ramos coup report

Editor's Note: Published on page A2 of the Nov. 3, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE DEPARTMENT of Foreign Affairs yesterday summoned United States Embassy officials to shed light on documents the embassy had reportedly sent to Washington regarding a plot to oust President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, including one linking former President Fidel Ramos to the alleged conspiracy.

Emerging from a 30-minute meeting with Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Edsel Custodio, US Chargé d’Affaires Paul Jones said he just reiterated “our strong view” that media reports “allegedly based on those documents distort completely the relationship that we had with the Philippines and the relationship that we value with individuals across the political spectrum.”...

The documents were the subject of a series of reports that appeared in the Inquirer over the past two months.

They were believed to be part of the cache of top-secret files allegedly stolen in Washington and sent to Manila by Filipino-American Leandro Aragoncillo, a former analyst in the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Michael Ray Aquino, a senior police official associated with opposition Senator Panfilo Lacson....

8. Where o Where did Aragoncillo go??? Wonder if he knew
Sue???

"I don't know of a case where the vetting broke down before and resulted in a spy being in the White House," said Richard Clarke, a former White House advisor who is now an ABC News consultant.

Federal investigators say Aragoncillo, a naturalized citizen from the Philippines, used his top secret clearance to steal classified intelligence documents from White House computers.

In 2000, Aragoncillo worked on the staff of then-Vice President Al Gore. When interviewed by Philippine television, he remarked how valued Philippine employees were at the White House.

"I think what they like most is our integrity and loyalty," Aragoncillo said

23. FBI LOOKS AT WHITE HOUSE COMPUTERS IN ARAGONCILLO PROBE
http://www.newsflash.org/2004/02/hl/hl102988.htm

The FBI is looking at whether Aragoncillo, a former Marine, took classified information about the Philippines from the White House when he worked for Vice Presidents Al Gore and Cheney from 1999 to 2002. The type of information has not been disclosed. Though Aragoncillo had top-secret clearance, that status would not have made him privy to highly sensitive intelligence.

Aragoncillo, a US citizen originally from the Philippines, was charged last month with providing classified information from his FBI posting at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, to former and current Philippine officials who oppose PresidentArroyo. Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said the criminal complaint against Aragoncillo suggests the information could have been intended to destabilize the Philippine government.

These guys are in the police departments and the FBI and in the Vice President's office!!! its a huge infiltration!!!
