Ari Fleischer, who is set to speak tonight in the LBJ auditorium, smartly bailed before it got this bad. It may seem that while Fleischer proffered the untruths to justify the illegal invasion of Iraq, he would avoid the fallout from them being exposed as bogus.
But he's not off the hook yet.
Fleischer is listed with six others in Fitzgerald's criminal indictment of Scooter Libby as administration officials who knew Valerie Plame's identity before public disclosure.
Fleischer officially abandoned his post as press secretary on July 14, 2003, coincidently the same day that Plame was outed as a CIA operative by journalist Robert Novak in his syndicated newspaper column.
White House telephone logs indicate that Novak called Fleischer on July 7, 2003, the day before Joe Wilson's famous column appeared in the New York Times debunking the Bush administration's assertion that Iraq was seeking enriched uranium from Niger.
