D.HAMMOND Just "Did" CLINTON (Not Shrub) on "The View"
HAMMOND ranks somewhere below Tweety and O'REILLY on my sputter-sputter list, going back to Shrub's first White House Correspondents Dinner where he did all GLORE/CLINTONs material, not any Shrub. Yeah-yeah, he was supposedly threatened by CHEENEE's goons. This was the venue of the crime where IMUS had *massacred" CLINTON previously. Then SNL has treated St Shrub with kid gloves. Plus, when HAMMOND "does" Tweety, he depicts Tweety as an actual Liberal and as the voice of reason, doing eyerolls and shaking his head in disbelief at the "wacky guests". The closest he got to tweaking Tweety was with the line, cracking himself up, "For the *FIFTY* people who watch this show..."

So today he's doing the jams and jellies thing on "The View" for "Scary Movie 3" and he "did" the Big Dog, saying CLINTON could have helped GORE by campaigning in FL, "pressing the flesh" and "I was going down for Spring Break anyway." Not a MENTION of Shrub, zip-nothing-nada. His previous copout is, "I'm ONLY a comedian..."

1. he does do bush on SNL
I saw this too and I thought it was funny. Clinton has said openly that he thinks Hammond is funny and no big surprise here--Clinton does like women.

I've also seem him do Tweety a few times, and I think he shows what a high-strung, spittin', loud-mouthed , pain-in-the-ass Chris Matthews is. The episode with Al Gore impersonating Trent Lott stands out. That banter was hilarious.

I'm quick to defend Clinton too, but Clinton DID set himself up for jokes when he said those infamous words...

Anyway, this is such old news...it needs a new name.

2. Not to Argue, But
perhaps my point wasn't sharpened enough, having to do with the slant, the unevenness of the barbs at one side vs the other side. The early times he did Tweety, it *was* as the "high-strung, spittin', loud-mouthed , pain-in-the-ass," but recently, up to and including last week's show, it was Tweety-as-the-voice-of-reason in the center among wacky-guests. And he was devastating as, and to, GORE. I don't recall HAMMOND doing Shrub. I remember Will FARRELL doing him great until 9-11, and there was somebody else being nondescript as Shrub last season. The real "old news" is the comedians doing CLINTON-GORE jokes, what, *five* years later and kid gloves for Shrub. Let's see, a whole fake impeachment and a stolen election in one scale and nothing sticking in the other scale of AWOL, drugs, dirty business, Enron, pillaging the public funds, illegal war-------yep, that sounds fair.

3. you know
I don't want to argue either and normally I wouldn't even bite at something this trivial, but it is a slow news day. Hammond is known for doing Clinton and doing Clinton well. Bottom line.

Letterman, who has made it know that he is not a big fan of Bush, still throws a few Clinton jokes occasionally.

There are too many other things to get heated about, rather than whether or not a comedian is making pot-shots at a political figure in mere jest, especially when he is characterized as that particular figure.

Some of the Clinton jokes really get under my skin--depending on who is saying them--but Hammond doesn't. Clinton himself doesn't take it to heart, so why should you?

I thought what he said today was funny...or maybe it's just missing the big dog that made me smile... but no matter what, it will pass.

Have a good day.
