I read as much as I could stomach, and I'm still not sure what's going on. Something about lousy returns for their recent pledge drive and an old Freep moderator who split off and started his own site?

Whatever it is, it seems to have the Freepers' collective panties in a bunch - almost 3000 posts. Any lurkers know what's going on and if, please God, it means the end to the Freaks as we know it? (OK, probably not - but I can dream, can't I?)

(on edit - traffic is down to a slow crawl today, with plenty of "The page cannot be displayed" messages...Freeps can't pay their bills? :D )

Have you noticed their past fund raising goals was met for a week or 10 days max? The current freeper fund raising is there for over 2 weeks now and still they haven't met their goal...

Is it because of the 'recovering economy' or because freepers are in recovery mode realizing what a joke FR is?

After Bush got in, the place really changed.

JimBob got religion, the threads really got vicious, and some oldtimers disappeared, many willingly, many banned....and a lot of strange types signed in. They wanted to nuke everybody, make a sea of glass out of every country outside the US.

And there were always pledge drives...but if anyone queried how much it actually cost to run the site they were either ousted or told it was the result of all the lawsuits...which seemed to be mounting.

So sooner or later, whatever secrets the place held, they were bound to come out.

And I actually got into a few evolution/creation debates. Some religious folks could debate pretty decently, others were lame, but I never had any problem getting banned for it or having threads pulled. Of course, I must admit I haven't done any religious debating there for the last year or so.

I can't wait for Saturday.

Sounds good to me. It looks to be much better than the "freeper" site (for a Republican anyways). I'll bet the Freepers who have half a brain and who are tired of hearing the propaganda of Free Republic and tired of their fascist practices will go there. if you publish much more than a tiny snippet. My mother and I have a book that's copyrighted (some stupid real estate book - nothing too terribly interesting) and truthfully, we would only go after someone if they sold it or if a competitor used it. And even then - we would just tell them to "knock it off." I think that very few writers would bother with actually suing someone. Some are even flattered that someone thinks enough of their article to use it.

Personally, I would actually rather see someone publish a WHOLE article of mine rather than just part of it....

Somebody "stole" a picture from one of my websites (which is also copyrighted) but credited me for it which ordinarily wouldn't bother me if it hadn't been a totally "dorky" site and I didn't want to be affiliated with their site. I just asked them politely to remove my name from the site. Didn't even really care that they used my photo.

As far as that political site goes - I would really kind of assume that the papers would enjoy the exposure and marketing they receive. You can also write and ask permission for using an article.

There is A LOT of dissension in the ranks starting from the top down. A lot of big money donors have been banned for differing political viewpoints.

If there is anyone here who doesn't understand that the bulk of the "Administrative" line item on our budget report (see our secure server donation page) goes to me, well I guess I didn't make it clear enough. Even take a laptop when I travel so I can log in on the road.
