BWAH! Trent Lott is basically telling Cheney to STFU
From Roll Call:

Lott Urges Control Over Lunch Topics

By Paul Kane
Roll Call Staff

November 10, 2005

Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.), angry about leaks from the Republican Conference, said Wednesday that Vice President Cheney should no longer be permitted to talk about anything “sensitive” at the weekly party policy luncheons.

“If the vice president of the United States can’t speak to a room full of Senators only, that’s not good,” the former Majority Leader declared, noting that at last week’s GOP meeting Cheney outlined his opposition to an anti-torture amendment and details of the discussion ended up in The Washington Post.

“If we’re going to do that again, I’m going to object,” Lott said.

The idea of trying to prevent Cheney from speaking at future luncheons — a rare enough occurrence as is, since he almost never speaks at the gatherings — didn’t win much support from the Republican Conference.

Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) declined to even acknowledge that the vice president spoke at last week’s lunch and ducked the question of how he would force his fellow Republicans to keep quiet about future vice presidential declarations.

“I can’t even talk about it,” Frist said.

some payback to Frist for taking his position.

30. I don't blame him. He sees what these Neo-cons have done to
Iraq and this country and he knows he lost his position because he beleived in compromising with Dem's at times for the good of the country. Actually, my opinion of Lott has become slightly more favorable recently. Not much, but some.

35. Trent sees something?
Trent Lott is as much an embarrassment to the Senate as his hero Strom Thurmond was.

Just because he's become the enemy of our enemy doesn't make him a good man.

34. But...I thought they were going to be building him a really nice house w/
a nice wrap-around porch that ole George was going to sit on?

Maybe Trent knows and sees the writing on the wall that he figures what the hell, just get it over with....

40. Then you don't know Southerners.
He rightly sees that the leadership was taken from him, not so much for what he said, or the Democratic stink it raised, but rather was the Republicans who silently pushed the story with the media.

He knows what DeLay did to Newt, and he saw the same thing happen to him. He's righting the books. And he is smart enough to know when and how to strike.

He took the wind right out of the Republican diversion of the CIA leak by telling everyone before the RW media could ratchet up, "hey, it was the Republicans who leaked it."

And what are they going to do to him?

6. Makes me believe the rumor
that Bush and Cheney aren't on speaking terms atm.

Who was going to sit on Trent's Front porch after it was rebuilt?

You think Trent has been asked to shove things around a little by a certain somebody?

I suppose I could hope they politically destroy each other in some way....

9. Last night on K.O. he did a bit on why Karl Rove still has his
security clearance. Keith interviewed an attorney who has defended several government employees who lost their clearance - mostly for minor reasons.

One of the things the attorney said that really struck me is that if the Pres., V-Pres, Sec. of State or Defense reveals classified information "It is no longer classified".

If this is true, when Cheney told Libby about Valerie Plame and told the Repugs senators about the prisons then the info is no longer classified.

Comment ?

11. I caught that too
but no, i think that if cheney were to reveal it to someone not authorized to know, then it would be declassified. but libby had clearance and was not authorized to disclose the info

people on DU know a lot about security/clearance issues and can probably give us some good info but it is generally confusing to me and many others.

31. If a classified document or information
is let out into the public arena it can no longer be "classified." Plame's status was compromised and was no longer classified information. The morally superior republicans are now trying to outstupid each other about the Prisons; Roberts: There aren't any prisons so how can there be a compromise of info. Frist: yeah trent you big dummy.

If I reveal classified information, it would no longer be classified, if Rove reveals classified information, it is no longer classified, if anyone reveals classified information, it is no longer classified.

14. I Think Frist Got A Wedgie By Someone But Good!
For opening up his trap and pulling that stunt to start an investigation without telling anyone about it, since, as it turns out, the leak almost certainly it now seems, came from a Repub, potentially Roberts himself, and perhaps even Cheney since it was discussed at this lunch BY Cheney! So, Cheney may be responsible for yet ANOTHER leak of classified info! And the idiot Frist wants it investigated!
