"Flu shots cancelled - shortage of vaccine"
Anyone else seeing these sign? I've seen them in two stores in Kansas City where the pharmacy had offered flu shots.

Are we due for another flu season without adequate vaccine protection? Do we even need to comment on what this means about us preparedness for a bird flu pandemic? :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

1. Don't worry. There will be enough for
rich people.

5. That is NOT sarcastic. That will be the reality. Financial eugenics.
Just what the Repukes want...not just survival of the fittest, as that would be evolution. They want survival of the richest. That is what they call Intelligent Design!!!

2. What? I heard the head health honcho say
there was an 'over supply' this year.

It was only a couple of nights ago on one of the late night shows (can't remember which -sorry). He said that unlike other years when the elderly and very young and the compromised are given shots first, that this year there were shots for any that wanted them.

10. I went and got mine as soon as they were available
at the local supermarket. It was truly a Darwinian experience. Healthy younger people; middle aged people; and older and really really older people, some with disabilities. All in a very long line.

For the very few who even THOUGHT of cutting the line for whatever health/age/other reason, or through whatever ruse, law and order was enforced by some of the oldest in the group, especially the sweet elderly couple in front of me.

You're with your 90 year old mom who doesn't speak English? Tough, end of the line, we're old too and our English isn't so hot either. You're tired and need to sit down on the chairs next to the dispensing table? Fine, we'll make sure we know who you WERE on line next to, and you'll get served when THEY get served. You were trying to meld into the line by chatting with your neighbor who arrived an hour before you? SHAME! Get to the back, line-cutter!

It was worthy of a Seinfeld episode.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

7. Cancelled in Florida Nov 6th
I had mine on the first day they were offered. This is the second year Bush did this to the American people. The year before they had the wrong vaccine. Why is this happening on Bush's watch?

9. There are times
Like this that I am extremely grateful to the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario.

There was a clinic in the Eaton's Centre, a downtown Mall, a week or so ago. If you wandered in, gave a valid Canadian address and rolled up your sleeve, you received a flu shot. Same as last year.

But then, Toronto dealt with SARS, which is a lesson.

12. Thank that fucking idiot in the white house
with his moronic bird flu terra bullshit.

yes - the vaccine is once again in short supply, this time because the presidunce went out and scared the bejeezus out of everyone with his bird flu nonsense.

Fucking asshole. Those of us who are actually supposed to get a shot are now on waiting lists because lots of folks got one who didn't need one to protect themselves from BIRD FUCKING FLU.

14. I have an appointment for my kids to get a flu shot.
The pediatrician's office say they have plenty  Neither of my kids are in a high risk group either.

I have not tried to get one yet. Maybe there is just a higher demand this year after last year when there wasn't enough and then all the bird flu hype.

15. We were a little busy this year during flu shot time;
Had a visitor named Wilma in town. So today I called our health department and they said we could get the shot if we are over fifty. We both are, so that works for us, but I don't think they're giving them to younger adults any more.

16. Kaiser just ran our to flu vaccine
My entire family got flu shots the first day. Kaiser said they had plenty and that all could get one. They have now run out because there was a higher than expected demand. Kaiser is a huge HMO in California.

18. Both my HMO (Kaiser) and my work just announed no shots
Just received word today that we would not be able to get flu shots this year through my employer. In the email that was sent out, they linked to a local newspaper article that announced that my HMO has run out as well.

Lovely. :yoiks:
