The Nation Mag - no support for Dems candidates who support Iraq war -
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 09:24 PM by msongs
got this from the DFA blog that the Nation liberal magazine says it takes the pledge to not endorse or support any democrat running for national office who supports staying in Iraq.

edit to add this quote:

"The Nation therefore takes the following stand: We will not support any candidate for national office who does not make a speedy end to the war in Iraq a major issue of his or her campaign. We urge all voters to join us in adopting this position. Many worry that the aftermath of withdrawal will be ugly, but we can now see that the consequences of staying will be uglier still. Fear of facing the consequences of Bush's disaster should not be permitted to excuse the creation of a worse disaster by continuing the occupation."

I see the archives are outta order so not sure if this has been mentioned here yet.

1. It was posted earlier, but the night shift can always use a heads-up.
I like what they're saying. Either we're going to say something or we're going to be nobody.

2. So I guess this means Hillary is out to them unless she
changes her position.

8. She's pro war
Unless she admits she was duped (if she actually was, I actually think she's pro war) I'll vote for someone else if she gets the nomination. The candidate who says OUT NOW, no "exit strategy" bullshit will get my vote. I went through "exit strategy" before, I won't fall for it again.

3. That's tough for Democratic officeholders in rural districts
Maybe Kucinich or Boxer can afford the political capital to take such a stand, but people in the rural areas are less forgiving if they have an anti-war politician representing them.

6. No support. No money. No vote.
They are complicit in the slaughter of innocent civilians. They are criminals.

we thought it would Before the Bombs fell on Baghdead!

I say GET OUT! It will never come to any good..the only good will come from withdrawing and paying the money the UN says we owe them.
