He was trying very hard to sound logical and to make his delivery "right." That's what was so frightening. I think that was the best he could do. I watched him and something about it screamed at me---"extreme effort."
Unfortunately I have some experience with this. When my very intelligent dad got Parkainson's and started getting demented--I could tell when he was making a huge effort to keep his thoughts and speech patterns together. He mounted a supreme effort when I talked on the phone with him.
In a weird kind of way, this reminded me of that. Definitely something off--but this was the first time the supreme effort effect seemed to kick in (at least for me).
