Poll: 'Dean Opens Wide Lead in N.H.'
The latest Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire, shows Howard Dean with a 'substantial lead' in that critical state among likely Democratic primary voters. The numbers (with Summer 2003 numbers in parentheses):

Dean 30 (16)
Kerry 17 (18)
Clark 10 (3)
Lieberman 6 (11)
Edwards 5 (2)
Gephardt 5 (3)

And Dean led the pack when likely voters were asked about their opinion of the candidate (favorable, unfavorable, don't know):

Dean 69, 14, 12
Kerry 60, 26, 5
Lieberman 49, 34, 8
Gephardt 47, 29, 12
Clark 45, 21, 24
Edwards 41, 21, 24

10. With no funding
practically no organization, a brand new campaign manager, and polling low in the first two primary states, I'd say you need to start looking at really WHO is desperate.

I'll give you a hint, Iranian, it sure as hell ain't Dean!

12. Has nothing to do with the poll, my friend,
but your continued insistence that New Hampshire is 'critical,' when it isn't. In fact, Clark in third is right where I'm happy to see him. NH might be critical for Dean and Kerry, but that's about it.

Gephardt and Lieberman might think about dropping out. Look at those negatives. Well, Gephardt will do well in Iowa, so I could see him staying in a while longer, but Lieberman.

7. Let's Be Fair
This is good news for Dean. The favorable/unfavorable ratings are particularly interesting to me, in that the previous polls I've seen put Clark with the best ratio (although now that I think about it, I think that was a national poll).

Wonder why Clark's negatives are relatively high in NH? Push-polling? NH residents taking umbrage at his lack of presence in the state?

13. The negatives on all of them are consistent except Dean.
Why Dean escapes, I don't know, since he has high negatives in the rest of the country relative to the other candidates.

20. Something interesting about the favorability ratings
None of the other candidates can get a higher favorability rating than Dean has because even if you add the "don't knows" the only two who can tie with Dean is Gephardt and Clark, and Dean still has 12% don't knows. So, in NH, according to this poll, Dean is the most favorably viewed candidate for the nomination.
