LA Times Hires "Liberal Fascism" Author, Fires War Critic Robert Scheer
“Liberal Fascism” Author Jonah Goldberg Now L.A. Times Op-Ed Columnist

The Los Angeles Times announced a major shake-up of its op-ed page today. Gone are cartoonist Michael Ramirez and liberal columnist Robert Scheer.

In their place, you won’t find any committed progressives like Scheer. Instead, L.A. Times editors chose National Review contributing editor and “Liberal Fascism” author Jonah Goldberg. Below, some of our favorite Jonah jems, coming to a “liberal media” near you:

On McCarthy’s wisdom:

What makes McCarthyism so hard to discuss is that McCarthy behaved like a jerk, but he was also right.

A message to Katrina victims:

ATTN: SUPERDOME RESIDENTS – I think it’s time to face facts. That place is going to be a Mad Max/thunderdome Waterworld/Lord of the Flies horror show within the next few hours. My advice is to prepare yourself now. Hoard weapons, grow gills and learn to communicate with serpents. While you’re working on that, find the biggest guy you can and when he’s not expecting it beat him senseless. Gather young fighters around you and tell the womenfolk you will feed and protect any female who agrees to participate without question in your plans to repopulate the earth with a race of gilled-supermen.

3. That's awful, I know.
I'm only slightly buoyed by the long-overdue firing of Ramirez knowing that Scheer is gone as well.

6. I finally convinced my wife to let me cancel our subscription to this
piece of shit paper. All it does is piss me off, anyway. I told her that we could still get Sunday, but I was sick of giving these people my money.

10. Goldberg's only previous book was vaporware!
This is from an amazon review:

The author is currently the online editor for National Review Online. He mentions the following in his current column . To quote:

"Years ago, I had a contract to write a book about the 100 most influential conservatives of all time. I came up with the list but never finished the book (though it's still listed in Amazon.com, which is not a confidence-booster for their stockholders). Eventually I was forced to return the advance betraying 6,000 years of Jewish tradition (oh come on lighten up; please no e-mails about that joke, okay?). "

This probably would have been a great book, but alas was stillborn for reasons unknown (vast left-wing conspiracy payoff or threats from Franco-philes ?). Still, by writing a meta-review I get entered in Amazon.com's Customer Review Contest and put in a plug for Jonah's NR Online column - in my opinion the best conservative writer since P.J. O'Rourke.
(amazon review of "The Conservative 100")

The date listed for publication of Liberal Fascism is August, 2006!!! That is just insane and I think he's just using the publishing industry and Doubleday to spread evil lying rightwing memes. Liberal fascism is an oxymoron, anyway.
