Just finished reading the NewsWeek article on Rush
It's worse than even I thought. Rush is such a hypcrite. You have to read it to believe it.

One question: Has anyone heard from his wife Marta? It's amazing to me that he met her on a message board.

It is really pitiful that so many so-called "intelligent" paragons of virture have been hoodwinked by Rush and his ilk. Rush doesn't even believe half of what he says but he know the American sheeple and their bigoted little brains. They deserve to be used.

1. Rush is not unlike
Father Coughlin and the american sheeple have no historical
memory, or they would have left this faux populist to rot in
hell as it were

From what you describe only reaffirms my thoughts that his therapist will recommend he stop the radio show if he wants to really stay sober.

Thats good news. The other side of the coin is if he continues the show, he will relapse within months. He may think he is clever and just drink boose...but it will ultimately take him back to his drug of choice.

3. Your words "...of choice." Says it all
Rush is no poor victim of those mean old pain-killers. Who has confirmed that he even had a medical problem that required pain pills. A slipped disc? Back operation gone bad... There are millions of people who earn far less than Rush who suffer more pain and who do not resort to breaking the law as Rush did. He had enough pills to be charged with "possession with intent to distribute." The jails are full of people who had far less drugs in their possession and were not selling. They were only users too.

5. The media is really playing up the disease fact...but
avoid the criminality section.....He needs to be prosecuted! It's just not a few drug diversion episodes or forged scripts but blackmaketing of mass quanities as well.

If he is not prosecuted and the repugs behave as Rush's "Chief Enablers" then they are indirectly responsible for his demise.

This remains to be seen....but ultimately, like post #4, we win either way.....

13. I think that pinprick pain of a conscience is getting harder and harder
to dull. COnsequently he needs to be doped up to keep the steady stream of cheerful lies coming.

6. Make big $$$$ bashing liberals! Call now for your free brochure!!
It's become an industry. More and more idiots keep piling on the bandwagon. I don't believe half of them believe what they say, they only know that the more outrageous it is, the more likely they'll get their own show on msnbc/radio outlet/book deal.

It's just disgusting. It's the marketization of hate.

7. It's scathing in its honesty.
No wonder the wingers are up in arms about it.

8. Still...any word from or about Marta?
Rush used to quote her (or make up something and attribute it to her). Based on the NewsWeek article, he may not have even been speaking to her much during their marriage.

10. I read the article, too
Wouldn't it be nice if every junkie about to get popped for possession or distribution or whatever could get a multi-page cover story spread about what a swell person he or she really is?

The article did have some things that could be considered harsh against Rush from one angle, but it read to me like they were saying "Gee, you know Rush sure said a lot of mean things about liberals, public servants and other people who didn't have the wherewithal to fight back and never did a thing to him, and who don't have a three hour daily national platform for rebuttal against his slanders, innuendos and slams, and he made tens of millions of dollars doing it, but you know, he's just an entertainer and he doesn't really believe quite all of the stuff he says, and he doesn't have many real friends, and shouldn't we give the poor guy a break?"

My response: Sorry, no.
