Does it bother anyone else when you hear reports about the so-called political divide, red vs. blue and all that stuff, as if the difference between the current batch of Republicans and the rest of us is merely a difference of opinion??

Look, I'm a firm believer that intelligent people are free to disagree, and that at it core, the debate between left versus right is about a legitimate difference in philosophy, but that is not the case here. These people (Rove, Bush, DeLay, Frist, Coburn, Hastert, Falwell, Robertson, Dobson, Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, etc.) are wrong. They are whackjobs. And while I realize that our side isn't anywhere near perfect, we are not merely the flip side to thee lunatics.

I have absolutely no idea why I am ranting about this today, it's just something that's been eating at me for a while now. Does anyone else have any thoughts?

1. I think it comes down to respecting the right to disagree
We respect that right -- they don't. They perceive the rest of us as trying to "destroy their rights" because they are trying to destroy ours.

In essence, it's a matter of critical thinking.

2. this is the first major media victory they had, and we're paying the price
one of the earlier media victories in this sad saga of banana republicanism is when the media adopted the wholly misguided view that the banana republican version of any story was entitled to at least equal time and respect, no matter what that side was.

this enabled the banana republicans to move out to the loony fringe, knowing that they'd still be guaranteed at least 50% of the coverage and they would never be called on it.

this was the beginning of the end for sanity in our government.

3. The moral right to disagree doesn't include the 'right' to defraud.

They're not just factually incorrect - they deliberately LIE. They're "false witnesses"!

4. I beg to differ while we are right they are not wrong;

They are CRAZY. They are totally disconnected from any reality. aWoL actually believes that he got no special treatment in getting into TANG. He believes that he was born rich because GOD likes him best; that poor people are poor because they are lazy and that the sooner he uses up he world the sooner he can trick God into returning.
The word for that is not wrong it is INSANE!

5. Been thinking about this for awhile..

And what always comes to mind is the quote from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. "The quest for the grail isn't archeology, it's a race against evil. If the Nazis get the Grail the armies of darkness will march all over the face of the earth."

This isn't politics, it's a race against evil.

On edit-Clarifying. Walldude here posting on my wifes 'puter kids are hogging mine with the new Harry Potter game :eyes:

6. I've thought this for a while...
... this isn't politics, or mere difference of opinion. They're wrong, about everything.

7. If I speak with someone...
... and I get the Hannity-O'Reilly treatment from them, I just turn and walk away... you are correct... they are whack-jobs, who do not think anyone is right but them, and I refuse to get into a shouting match with someone who feels the need to be superior.

8. I am convinced today's GOP hates the republic and is out to destroy it.
I will not accept today's political differences as mere opposing opinions. The reich wing controlling the GOP is purposefully trying to destroy my country. And they must be stopped.
