Bush crony appointed security chief at Newark airport: a heck of a job!
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 05:11 AM by Bluebear
August 2005: Bush family friend is appointed head of security at Newark "Liberty" Airport. Direct from the TSA's (Transportation Security Administration) press release....

"...Hatfield's experience in the private sector includes running his own communications consultancy; Vice President of Public Relations for Metiom, Inc., a New York software company; Managing Director for Public Affairs at Burson-Marsteller, a global public relations firm headquartered in New York; Director of Public Affairs for Schmidt/Westerdahl Group, an advertising and public relations firm in Portland, Ore.; and Director of Advance for The Beach Boys' 'Sea to Shining Sea' tour in 1985. He also served on the national staff of the 1980 and 1984 Reagan presidential campaigns and the 1988 Bush/Quayle campaign."

October 2005
NEW YORK (AFP) — Security screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport, one of the airports breached by the Sept. 11 hijackers, failed to detect 25% of fake bombs or weapons in inspection tests, a report said Thursday.

The Newark Star-Ledger, citing confidential inspection reports, said the vast majority of failures resulted from the federal screeners' inability to detect phony explosive devices hidden in carry-on bags sent through X-ray machines.

1. I might be careful traveling through Newark Airport
from now on. Look what happened last time a Bush crony, ie his brother, took over security for a major landmark and some airports.

Oh yeah, one of those airports involved in 9-11 just happened to be the one Newark. Gee what a coincidence.

3. Newark Airport sucks; have to go thru security lines 4 connecting flights
Warning: always allow at least TWO hours between arrival and departure when making a connecting flight at Newark. If going from one terminal to another, as in the case of some domestic and ALL international connections, you have to go completely out of the terminal area to the main entrance and come back in through the initial security gate, with the LONG lines, the take-off-the-shoes-and-coat, put everything through the machines, etc. There is also a very long walk involved. At other airports, Houston, O'Hare, Midway, Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, once you're through main security, you don't have to leave the secured area just to make a connecting flight.

4. What was that about...
the supposed 'traditional Republican' belief in 'individual merit'?

Guess that's by the wayside, then.
