It became clear to me why many Bushbots still support him...
A conversation with my Mother, who has been going to church regularly for over 80 years, and criticized me for not going to church any more (dropped out of the Catholic church over 20 years ago)... she said that I will be judged by God for not going to church any more, even though I wait on her hand and foot in her old age. This made it clear that to some Christians, all that matters is whether you go to church or not. You can get away with just about anything during the week, but as long as you make it into that building every Sunday, you're considered a "good, churchgoing person" and all is forgiven, you will still make it into heaven. Suddenly it became clear to me, these people still supporting Bush think of him as a "good, churchgoing man" because they see him going to church, and how could anybody who puts the suit on and sits through the service every Sunday possibly be evil or harmful? (No matter that he has murdered thousands of Americans via 9/11, Iraq, Katrina, etc.) All that matters is that he is an "upstanding church member" and all of his speeches and PR attempts are insignificant compared to the fact that, BY GOD, the MAN STILL GOES TO CHURCH EVERY SUNDAY, so he must be ONE OF THE GOOD MEN OF THE EARTH.

1. Kerry goes to Mass every Sunday
You might try mentioning that to your mother. Kerry carries a rosary with him everywhere he goes; he began doing it back in Vietnam, I believe.

2. And Bush doesn't go to church as often as Clinton did
Bush's faith was kind of a "one-time" get out of jail free card sort of thing. He was bad; now he's good. Thanks to God.

9. Bush only goes to church when the GOP needs more wingnut support.
They push their fascist agenda by duping their religious supporters into backing them up.

4. I agree with you! Funny thing though,
I've heard that *co. doesn't actually go to church all that often.

And, as to YOU not going...well just reminder of the sins all those pedophile priests!!

5. Chumpy ( * ) doesn't go to church. He worships Satan and gives
the sign of the beast in public on a regular basis (that is NOT the Texas Longhorn sign).

6. He goes to church every Sunday? Really?
Which church is that and when was the last time he actually attended? I saw that he made a photo op appearance during the last presidential campaign, but I haven't seen anything after that.

7. Oh sure. That's how the dopes have been decieved, simply by
appearances, and I am not being sarcastic, I totally agree. This is how it has been so easy for them to get away with a new scandal every freaking day.

8. "How could anybody who puts the suit on and sits through the
service every Sunday possibly be evil or harmful?" Well, the BTK killer in Kansas, Dennis Rader, was a church elder or something. That's just one of thousands.

10. But does he teach Sunday School?
Jimmy Carter reads the Bible in English AND Spanish, goes to church, teaches Sunday School, and truly tries to do what Jesus taught. He is truly a man of faith. Bush is a phony Christian.

Try that out on your mother if you discuss this kind of thing with her. I don't even discuss politics with my mother.

11. I've heard this argument before---
when I was living in Iran. I asked a college professor friend of my first husband how could he, an educated man, support Khomeini, a man who was hellbent on taking his country back to the 14th century. I was told that Khomeini claims to be the sainted "hidden Imam" and that he couldn't risk his eternal soul by being wrong, so he supported him.

12. Jimmy Carter was argubaly the most religious President ever,
at least in my lifetime. He actually lives the life, rather tahn just paying lip service to religion. He is active in Habitat for Humanity, has brokered numerous peaceful solutions to problems, and has also admitted that he is not perfect, as none of us are. You should try pointing this out to your mother.

14. Churchgoing members in Xtian mythology since Augustine
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 12:43 PM by kenny blankenship
are all part of the mystical Body of Christ. Someone who doesn't attend and isn't a member in good standing or who proclaims his agnosticism or atheism occupies a very downgraded order of existence, something like a slug. They are not of the Body. They are not part of Landru. Since ex ecclesiam there ain't no salvation, and non-believers or the indifferently faithful, cannot be saved, they are the shit of the Universe. God will expel them from himself, like spitting out the salt that has lost its savor.

All Bushler has to do to please some people is to say he goes to Church and that he is a believing Ghodly man of Ghawuhd, and in their eyes he will be ipso facto preferable to another leader, no matter how he fucks up or how many people he kills.

BTW, which church(s) will he be attending on his trip to the Asia? Does AF1 have a chapel?

18. Methodists use grape juice in their communion service,
which is done only quarterly, not every Sunday (unless things have changed since I left that church in the 80s).

Wesley recommended it be taken often. Our church takes it once a month.

16. A bunch of Southern Baptists suffer under that delusion.
Drink, rape the daughter, beat the wife, go to church on Sunday. Hate Blacks, rape the daughter some more, beat the wife again, go to church on Wednesday. Repeat.

also went to church quite frequently. Could have been every Sunday, I don't know because I don't care but how would they feel about that?

my 76 year old mother, who is a devout Catholic and wouldn't think of missing church on Sunday, is a liberal democrat who dislikes George Bush with a passion!!!!
