"Please Don’t Support My Troop"
Please Don’t Support My Troop

By Michael Gaddy

snip:

"My son returned from Iraq last weekend after a year’s service. I confess to breathing much easier now that he is out of that quagmire.

I have a personal request for all of you George W. Bush supporters and Christian warhawks: please do not support my troop. I have visions and aspirations of having him around, seeing him settle down and start a family at some point, and being near as I grow older. Your support would mean that he would be sent back to this war started and continued on lies to become a target for those who would rather live their lives without the interference of a foreign, empire-seeking, new-world-order, invader.

Actually, my son completed his contractual obligation to the military several months ago, but thanks to your support, he has been stop-lossed and has no idea when he will be allowed to resign his commission.

Why would I not want your support for my troop, you ask? Considering your support of our criminal government has led to the death, destruction and misery of millions of people on this planet, that is basically a no-brainer....."

The author, BTW, is a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, Grenada, and Beirut. Read the rest of the article about why this man doesn't want us to "support his troop" (his son), along with an interesting reference to Rush Limbaugh in the last paragraph here...

. . . that is, people who have the GALL to call this author an "anti-Murkan, troop-hatin', terrist-aidin' TRAITER"!

13. The only ones who say that
are the ones who have never served and never will serve. Republican chickenhawks.

6. They should make an attempt to, considering the author's a Vietnam Vet
etc.

5. I am tempted to print out copies of that
and leave it under windshield wipers of the folks with the 'W' stickers and ribbons.

12. Hey, Repubs support the troops, not the war...
...but watch them launch themselves like demented little fascist rottweilers at any soldier who refuses to fight - from behind the safety of their keyboards, of course.

15. Wow.
It means so much that this is coming, not only from the parent of a veteran, but someone who served as well.

16. You stated that perfectly.
"It means so much that this is coming, not only from the parent of a veteran, but someone who served as well."

That's part of what makes the article so powerful, and why I hope everyone reads the entire article and not just the part I used in the OP.

17. Your post reminds me...
Back before the Bush war my wife and I were among a handful of people who attended an anti-war rally in front of the court-house in our small town. A local fundie pastor was so outraged by our planned rally that he wrote a scathing letter to the editor and staged a counter-rally a few blocks away to "support our President". His was attended by almost 1000 people. Our small group of around 15-20 was jeered and ridiculed by passing vehicles. Some who had planned to attend our rally were afraid to do so - they had too much to lose. A young teacher (who had two little kids) organized our rally and he was driven out of his job. Long story. It was a quite an experience!

Now that time has passed, it's much easier to see which group truly supported the troops, and all the other innocent victims of this failed president. Posts like yours provide hope that there are still independent, clear-thinking people in these dark times.

18. Thank you, kindly. However, all credit belongs to the author of the article
Oh, and you deserve all the credit in the world for standing up for your beliefs at that rally. You were right to do so then, and you've been consistently proven right as time has gone by. It's a shame, though, that your teacher friend lost his job over the ordeal. I hope everything works out fine for him in the long run. Take care and...

Never give up! :toast:
