E-mail from fundies. Fear tactics used again.
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 12:39 PM by louis-t
I received a forwarded e-mail from a friend:

Subject: Dr. Dobson - Please support this.

Please, if you don't wish to participate, return this to the person
who sent it to you so they can at least keep
this going or forward it
to some one you think will wish to participate.

Dr. Dobson is going on CNBC to urge every
Christian to get involved. I
hope you will think about signing this and
forwarding to all your
family and friends. Dr. James Dobson, with
Focus on the Family, pleads
for our action.

An organization has been granted a Federal
Hearing on the same subject
by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
in Washington, DC.
Their petition, Number 2493, would ultimately
pave the way to stop the
reading of the gospel of our Lord and Savior,
on the airwaves of America.>>>>>>>>>>>

Notice the phrase "would ultimately pave the way..."
I would like to know more about this "petition number 2493".
If there is such a thing, what does it really say? Anyone know?
There is also a list of people who support it by adding their name to a list. edit: I sent her back a message saying I don't trust these people and they're not telling the whole story, just using fear to get what they want.

2. Bah!
Not only is this thing a chain letter, which is bad enough, but it is a Dobson chain letter. Icky!!

4. What's the purpose of returning it to the person who sent it to
you, given that it can be retrieved from an "Inbox" fairly quickly? Seems to me that perhaps it is a good way of collecting names of people who dissent? I'd be worried about that list.

5. Please return it so they can reuse it? ROFLMAO - oh, should all
the enemies of democracy be so ignorant as to how the 'internets' work!

6. "New evidence "may" indicate Michael Schiavo beat his wife"
that led to her current state. Crap from dobson's radio garbage way back before Teri died. I guess lying is a christian virtue as well.

7. I got one of those too
I just trashed it and didn't respond. I hope it stopped it dead in its tracks for the bunch that sent it to me. I don't trust any of them. They are part of the problem, not solution.

9. you should respond with the link to the snopes piece debunking
this e-mail as the internet rumor it is, and encourage the sender to pass the snopes link back to everyone who had forwarded it to them.

I did it with a reply to all. That way everyone else on the list got the snopes document also.

10. That' s going around again?
I've gotten a very similar one twice. The first time, I just deleted it; the second time, I went to the FCC website, copied and pasted the page debunking it, added a note warning everyone against being gullible marks to snake oil salesmen, and replied to all...which was a pretty big list! Needless to say, I'm sure I didn't make many friends with that, but hey, who needs stupid friends who can't think?
It was sent to me - at (my former) work both times - by a coworker, so it's not like a personal friend sent it. You wouldn't believe some of the things that group of people sent around to each other. Talk about your RW echo-chambers! I was not unhappy when I got laid off two days after the 04 (mis)election.

11. 25 or 30 years ago this was going around
but had the name Madilyn O'Hare on it. The FCC actually had to put in an extra phone line to explain to people that it was bunk.

For the idiocy of keeping this one alive, the FCC SHOULD pull them from the airwaves. :sarcasm:
