Missouri Senate is looking good for Dem's '06
Democrat Claire McCaskill leads Republican incumbent Senator Jim Talent by 47-45 percent in latest poll, up from a 45-45 tie last month.

I think our three best chances for Democratic pick ups in the Senate in '06 are Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri.

1. A lot can happen in a year
but Claire would make such an awesome Senator.

2. Elaborate, because from the outside,
missouri seems as conservative as they come. Not necessarily CRAZY like Oklahoma, but pretty frickin conservative. Any insights?

3. just because this is one of several polls which show
McCaskill either ahead or tied with Talent. She only narrowly lost the Governorship in a Republican year as well.

5. Only parts of Missouri are batshit crazy
There is, and has been for a long while, a line that runs East-West through the state that really divides it into not just two different political parts, but two ideological parts also. I-70 and on north, everything is moderate to very left wing. Everything south of I-70 is moderate to batshit crazy RWers. Sadly, the SW part of the state, the Springfield/Joplin/Branson nexus has been growing like all get out, and thus they're increasing they're influence in state politics. In addition, we've had a stream of politicians from SW Missouri that have increased their influence all out of proportion to their population, people like Roy Blunt, John Ashcroft, Talent, etc.

But I think that '06 and '08 are going to be a turn back to the left for Missouri. Our govenor, Matt Blunt, has pissed off everybody in the state, right, left and center, so he will be gone in '08. And frankly the state is also sick of having RW fundies in office also, so that does not bode well for Talent. I'm hoping that Robin Carnahan will start stepping up and look to challege for Bond's seat when it is up, she is cut from the same great cloth as her father Mel.

Missouri isn't all batshit crazy, we just run in cycles like most any other Midwestern state. Fortunately I think we're going back left, because too many people in this state are fed up with the right.

6. Yep only parts are fucking nutz
I've been seeing buyer remorse, all of the people who came out and voted repuke last year are griping and moaning like there is no tomorrow.
Also, there are a great many people who either haven't voted for years, or never, who are pissed, they are feeling the pain brought on from voting in the reich wing.
They're ready to change things, they're going to come out to change things, and with them and a disillusioned jesus faction staying home, we will turn this madness back.
