Poll question: Should Capitol Hill Blue be censored on DU?
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 05:18 PM by Quixote1818
It seems a hand full of people seem to detest CHB and want it censored.

Personaly I always enjoy it and take it with a grain of salt just like most news sources.

What do you think?

I really hate it when that happens. Makes it look like I am shouting or something.

3. Look
DU is a good place to get information which a lot of us count on to be reliably linked.

Linking to sources with credibility is how we vet ourselves.

I personally love to read Capital Hill, because the articles were what I wish/hope was happening to Smirk. But we've been burned before relying on their stories. I don't think they are reliable enough to start threads with and discuss. Turns out oftentimes to be a waste of time.

So, I agree with not using them as a source, unless they become more reliable. It just saves a lot of time

6. Why would it be necessary to officially censor it?
Let people decide for themselves if it's pure hooey. Surely the opprobrium expressed by fellow DUers would be enough to give people pause. That kind of unofficial censoring would be enough.

18. Here is a link to their latest article
http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7650.shtml

They tend to report on things like Bush's temper tantrums or Bush yelling at his aids. He rarely gives his sources because they don't want to be listed.

12. I don't see what the big problem with it is
I don't think it is LBN material by a longshot, but I have no ills with it in GD, as long as the OP clearly states the source. That is why a value freedom of speech, as the reader themselves can choose what they want to read or not read.

LBN is a different matter though. When I read something in LBN I take confidence in its authenticity.

20. no kidding. HERE, no less. My gosh, we sound like a baptist revivalist,
demanding total obedience to the message - ONE message.

If that is the case, then, let us ban all outside sources. Free Republic is the first to be banned from any discussion. NYT would be next, because of Jayson Blair, Judith Miller and other lies.

OK. Where would we stop? Where would our "comfort zone" begin? And when any of us stray from that precisely defined, and autocratically created artifical line, would people get booted for honestly disageeing?

Man, I hope not.

16. It is of course impossible to censor anything on DU
Things can be removed or disallowed as a result of DU policy but there is no censorship.

DU is not subject to the First Amendment as it is privately owned and held and your posts and any posts regarding any topic are allowed solely at the whim of the owner of this site.

If Skinner decides that Capitoal Hill Blue is totally worthless (which it is) and that Capital Hill Blue isn't worthy of our time or discussion here on DU (which it isn't) and as a result decides that moderators should delete any threads or posts which use Capital Hill Blue (which would be useless posts anyways considering how completely useless Capital HIll Blue really is) there is nothing anyone can do about it and claiming censorship would be incorrect because it isn't censorship at all.

It can be a fun read if you can remember to view everything printed as completely fabricated though. Unfortunately, some of those on DU insist that Capital Hill Blue is a worthwhile and trusted source.

17. Absolutely not.
I am a grownup and I am perfectly good at rolling my eyes and clicking away when I see that an article is from CHB. I do not need to be 'protected' by someone who decides for me what is and is not helpful for me to see. The very idea is offensive.

BTW, I also like to read CHB from time to time just for shits and giggles.

27. As someone who occasionally posts CHB links here ...
I'm absolutely opposed to censoring it on DU. Sure, it can be over the top at times and I do cringe at some of the "unsourced" stories, but you've got to admit that CHB was ahead of everyone else in running stories about *'s temper tantrums. It's like any other source ... you take it with a grain of salt.

And as for the idea of relegating CHB to the Lounge, I think that's one of the sillier ideas I've seen posted here. I will never start another post in the Lounge because of the kind of people who hang out there. In fact I seldom even open a thread if I see it's been posted in the Lounge.

I don't have a problem with the conspiracy sites in general, so CHB is fine. I can see the line between reality and bullshit.
