"Mother quietly protests war as son clings to life"
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 11:09 PM by Blue_In_AK
A sad story on the local news tonight, the same day ** speaks to the troops at Elmendorf on his way to Asia...

Anchorage, Alaska - She wasn't at a protest held today outside of Elmendorf Air Force Base, but she wasn't cheering President Bush either. Former Alaska gubernatorial candidate Diane Benson had her thoughts on her son, who suffered terrible injuries yesterday in Iraq. Diane Benson cherishes her box of photographs of her son's military service even more so today.

“All I know is I was abruptly woken at 8:20 in the morning Sunday morning, that something bad had happened to my son,” said Benson.

Benson's son, Latseen, a U.S. Army specialist, became the victim of a roadside bomb in Iraq. He lost his legs and still has not regained consciousness. Latseen Benson was on his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Benson says after her son’s first tour, Latseen tried to get out of the Army after his four-year commitment ended Oct. 31. But the military's stop loss order kept him in and sent him back to Iraq.

“So for 13 damn days, my son's life is ruined,” said Benson.

8. My heart breaks. This man wanted to get out but was stop-lossed.
This has got to be illegal somehow, if not how this mission is being executed, than how they eventually treat the casualties of war.

9. So sad..our Soldiers being blown
up because of bush's Lies..I hope by some miracle he pulls through.

I can imagine if it were my son they were talking about.

This boy did his time and they wouldn't let him go. I think since bush loves his war so much he should play dress up and go put on his fatigues and join the fun over there in Iraq.

... and affecting more people in the process. The death and injury rate have been increasing.

Bush doesn't really give a f*** - when he gets done with his hitch, he'll go back to his world of ranches, country clubs, and zero culpability. Meanwhile, we're going to be hearing about people like this young guy in our communities - disabled or too fucked up in the head to deal with the world. We'll see them at airports or malls or on the streets in wheelchairs with cups that say 'Veteran of War' on them. I know two Afghanistan vets in town who can't hold down a job. I talk with another guy in a sandwich shop I go to who did two tours in Iraq, and he tells me how fucked up he is and how he's against the war.

Right wing nut-jobs are always talking about how God looks out for America, but let me tell you: if (s)he's involved at all, God will never forgive this country for putting that dumbass Bush in the driver's seat.

14. This is why we have to make * culpable for this war.
It was, is, and should be forever the folly he started that touched so many people negatively. I want this man to pay for his fuck-ups!

12. This is W's legacy
War for corporate profits and all else be damned. It is so depressing that the GOP voted the way they did and have caused the damage they have to this country and its citizens.

18. He will never be the same
And neither will his poor mother. Damn them all, damn each and every nasty freeper who "supports the troops". The real losers are these kids: the ones who lose their legs, arms, sight, sanity, reality hope and god knows what else. I'm so tired of the killing. I'm so tired of this shit.
