3. Ugh
Once there was this random fundie preaching at our school and talking at people. He had this suitcase w/ stupid stickers like that on it. One said "Aren't you glad your mother wasn't pro-choice?" I was all "Dumbass, my mother is pro-choice. She CHOSE to have me, motherfucker!" I was really agitated.

7. actually
One could say that infanticide wasn't frowned upon by god.

From Leviticus, where god lists the monetary value of human life:

27:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation.
27:3 And thy estimation shall be of the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary.
27:4 And if it be a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels.
27:5 And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
27:6 And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver.
27:7 And if it be from sixty years old and above; if it be a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels.

Notice that the lowest age for which a value is given is one month?

Also, some other abortion mentions in the Bible:

Exodus 21:22-23 "If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life." (Here, mischief is the death of the woman.)

Numbers 3:15-16 "Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them. And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD."

Hosea 13:16 "Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up."

2 Kg.15:16 "Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up."

Hosea 9:14 "Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts."

Hosea 9:16 "Yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb."

9. With all due respect, I'm pretty sure that wasn't the context God had
in mind with those Scriptures. As far as the stickers, the idea that you can't be a Christian and pro-choice is absurd, and bad theology. While I am pro-life, I recognize that good people can be pro-choice, and not necessarily pro-abortion.

13. really?
What context could it possibly have, otherwise?

We're talking about the value of human beings, and the value rate starts at one month post-birth. You telling me a fetus would have gotten god all worked up?

6. That last one...

Of course, an ugly response would be that there would have also been no Inquisition, no Crusades, and no idiot in the White House claiming to speak to G-d! Besides, how do they know Mary was not pro-choice? She made her choice, to have the child. Sounds like a good choice to me.

Then again I love Christmas music. So I am glad Mary made her choice. For the most part. :)

14. Christmas music
I HATE it! Of course that may be because I don't know most of the songs, as I am Jewish and was sent out of the room during the Christmas parties at school, instead of including me and my families traditions. I know a few of the songs, but most, I have no idea what the lyrics are past the refrain. So, most Christmas songs aren't my fave, but neither is the "Dreidel song!" LOL!

11. Yep, those are pretty dumb...
I work at a bank and I occasionally run across a series of checks known as "Pro-Life Zingers". Basically, the religious right has decided to put their "wit" on display with these checks. Personally, I think this one wins the award for dumbest pro-life statement:

18. The recent government proposal in Sweden to allow foreign
women to receive abortions in Sweden entails some interesting statistics.

In Poland one of the most restrictive countries in the EU there were 150 abortions made in 1999. At the same time it is estimated that between 70 000 - 150 000 abortions are done illegally every year (based on figures from before the "prohibition" which reached up to 300 000 some years and estimates from www.federa.org.pl). Beyond undergoing illegal abortions many women travel to Germany, Czech Republic, Leningrad and Lithuania.

One can think whatever one likes about abortions, but it seems clear that banning abortion does not work. It becomes especially problematic when the prohibitive rules are combined with poor access to and limited knowledge about contraceptives.

Two major studies on abortion for those interested:

International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) European Network 2004. Abortion Legislation in Europe.

UNDP 2001. Abortion Policies: A Global Review (1999).

I thought the idea that an embryo was miraculously implanted. Or that God's sperm (?) miraculously met up with one of Mary's eggs.

Actually - I don't think the details were ever explained.

32. My Mom Didn't "Choose"
I never understood the one about "Choose Life, your mother did." I wasn't an "unintended" pregnancy. Heck, my Mom had several miscarriages before she had me, and had to be on bed rest for several months. Although, if there was such a thing as retroactive abortion, I'm sure that I gave her a few good reasons to have one during my teen years. :D

Even if I was a "surprise package", there was no legal abortion back the early '60s.
