1. Why did any senator vote for Gonzales?

2. I'm not sure who you would have preferred as AG, but
I think Gonzales is a heck of a lot better than Ashcroft ever thought of being!

3. That's a poor argument- would you prefer the meal with minor
ptomaine poisoning or the botulism delight? Gee, I'd rather have a mild case of ptomaine, that's a heck of a lot better than botulism.

6. OK, let me rephrase it.
WE all know Shrub would nominate a RW conservative to the AG position. I don't see any other option but to choose the best of a lot of objectionable candidates.

Gonzales seems knowledgable of the law, and at least has demonstrated that he will step aside and name a Special Presecutor when he has a conflict of interest.

At least he took the damn drapes of the statue in the justice dept.

7. But possibly a second choice for AG wouldn't have been one of the
collaborators on a torture memo. Dems, as far as I'm concerned, would have been better off voting against him, instead of saying, as Biden did "I like you, you're the real deal". Maybe he would still have been confirmed with more votes from Reps, but the morality issue of torture would not then be hanging like an albatross around Biden (or others) necks.

10. Hmm..... Ashcroft / Gonzales..
Ashcroft DID recuse himself when it came to picking a special prosecutor... I think he was a deluded holy roller.. but I think Gonzales (who has been making legal excuses and loopholes for the B*sh family's bad behavior for years) is worse.
