Reagan-Crowley being replaced by Povich-Chung
MSNBC cancels Connected Coast to Coast, Entertainment shows: From: Kaplan, Rick (NBC Universal, MSNBC) Sent: Tuesday, November 15, 2005 1:57 PM To: @MSNBC Everyone Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT I wanted to share with all of you some news about a realignment of our dayside coverage. Beginning after the first of the year, we are going to increase our live news coverage on the weekends. With the addition of our new program with Connie Chung and Maury Povich, we will be in live or topical news programming from 8am until 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. This more than doubles our current live weekend programming! In order to accomplish this, we will be shifting some resources in the coming month. After a year of great programs, "Connected: Coast to Coast" will have it's final telecast on Friday, December 9. I'm very proud of this program and the work of Ron, Monica and Sharon Newman and their entire team. They brought smart coverage and internet reporting to cable news and set a very high standard of coverage…

1. Wtf?
Am I reading this wrong, or are they cancelling Connected (which is a weekday program) so they can air Chung/Povich on the weekends?

That doesn't really make any sense, here.

2. I hope somebody else hires
Reagan because I thought he brought a good perspective to his work and was well spoken. Sometimes I did feel he was just a bit too Democratic to be impartial, but hey, I can handle THAT!

I'd like to imagine that just being the son of a President he would have a clear understanding of the soft underbelly of politics. Now, I could be wrong...he wasn't all that close to his Dad, evidently, but he was close to his Mom and she was a huge part of that presidency.

4. As much as I liked and admired Ron...the show never really "worked"
There was no chemistry and the separate studio setup was strange. Hope Ron gets some new venue to give his political insights.

7. This Show Never Had A Chance
It aired at a time when most people couldn't see it and never promoted it. Many mornings I'd think about popping it on and it was already over. Oh well.

While I enjoy Ron Reagan, Crowley was the turd in that punchbowl. Her mean-spirited personality can't be glossed over with all the Ms. Clairol and wardrobe. She'd constantly talk over guests and eventually would say something stupid...Ron would just sit there and shrug his shoulders.

Seems like the network wanted Reagan after his work at last year's convention, but Ron only would do it if it meant he could remain close to his Seattle area home. Hopefully Kaplan knows who was the star on that show...moves Ron into one of those dying prime time slots (any one after Countdown) and sends Crowley back to Faux where she craweled out of...and have her take Rita Cosby with her.

13. guess they don't see enough of each other at home
thank goodness they're not in the same chain-of-command or it might be perceived as nepotism

why not give someone outside the corporate media elite a chance ... is Jim Hightower too busy?

I just see more Tabloid Journalism.

Connie Chung and Maury Povich will be united onscreen for a weekend news show produced by the co-creator of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, MSNBC said Monday.
