Falwell cancels speech: his personal aircraft broke
Hmm, first Ashcroft. Now Falwell can't move his fat ass around in a commercial jet?

====

EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- The Reverend Jerry Falwell cancels his visit to Oklahoma, where he was to deliver a speech to the 2005 Pastors Conference.

Officials say the Moral Majority Coalition co-founder couldn't fulfill his obligation Monday because of mechanical problems with his airplane. Falwell couldn't be reached for comment.

The Reverend Ray Earley -- president of the Pastor's Conference and pastor of First Baptist Church of Cartwright -- took Falwell's place at Edmond's Henderson Hills Baptist Church.

Farley says he requested to have Falwell as one of several guest speakers because of the conference's theme of prayer.

3. Guess that depends upon which god we're talking about...
... the Israeli government gave him the plane because of his support for Israel and Israeli tourism. !

10. I think I found that in...
... Grace Halsell's Prophecy and Politics, which came out in 1989. The plane was given to Falwell in around 1987, when he was promoting tours for fundies of Holy Land sites.

4. Couldn't he have just gone in the bad plane?
On a wing and a prayer? Or maybe he lacked faith.

I think god's trying to tell him something.

11. Kewl - I was *really* wanting to go and protest against Falwell yesterday,
Edited on Tue Nov-15-05 11:40 PM by kath
and had been checking (in vain) to see if any OKC area groups were planning a protest. I wasn't sure if I felt brave enough to do it on my own, but felt bad that I didn't make it out there. I wanted to carry a sign that said "Hate is NEVER a family value" (the favorite button that I bought at a Kerry campaign store last year) on one side, and "WWJH - Who Would Jesus Hate?" on the other.

BTW, not all of the OK Baptist clergy were happy that Falwell was invited to speak at the convention. Here's a story about it from the OKC alternative weekly (it was the cover story in last week's edition):

(scroll down - it's about 2/3 of the way down the page)

<[on edit - above link not working. Try www.okgazette.com[br />then click on the pic of Falwell in a Tinky Winky costume in the upper left corner of the page)
