Fitzgerald is a genius
Libby lawyers are saying that since woodward was the first to know about plame their client should NOT be charged. One little problem though, libby was NOT charged with outing the CIA agent, he was charged with 2 counts of perjury, 2 counts of lying, and 1 count of obstruction of justice

For two plus years woodward has been critisizing the investigation without telling anyone he was directly involved

This is just the beginning

12. I agree
And once that happens I think it would be really bad sign for Bush and it'll show how they were wrong and more people will turn against them.

4. Yup. Too late, Libby done lied already. LOL!
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 01:11 AM by cat_girl25
And you're right, Libby wasn't charged with outing Ms. Plame, they got him for lying to a grand jury on five counts.

Oh he's good. Woodward calls him a junkyard dog prosecutor, Stein calls him a thug...who's next?

15. that's ok......
I'm sure Fitzgerald is used to having people call him names. As a prosecutor, he knows the people are not going to like him all of the time.

8. I told you guys, Scooter who are you buddies
sooner or later Scooter's gonna have to make a deal, plead guilty or go to trial and put people on the stand that are going to have to vouch for him, Scooter who are your real friends? They only angle he's got going for him is the the government's gonna cry wolf and try to block alot of testimony and document release on the basis of national security.

10. Within the last few days a Talking Head said
that with the attorney's he's retained, Libby is likely to be looking for a plea bargain, which we all figured considering the potential 30 yrs hard-time he's facing. He's gonna' bury Rove AND Cheney! He's not going down alone.

16. I think Fitzgerald is trying to pressure Libby........
.......so that he can ultimately build a case against Cheney!!

I agree...........Libby won't be the only one to go down for this one. It may take Fitz years to build his entire case but eventually, I believe he will get them.

22. So Fitz wants to squeeze Cheney to resign?
I don't think there is anything Fitz can do legally against Cheney. Can he issue indictments and then pass them to congress who would choose to indict?
Besides, I'd rather deal with a very weak Bush and Cheney but a new VP would find hit hard to escape the black hole Bush/Rove has created.

9. Libby said Tim Russert told him of Plame's identity, right?
That was a lie. Perjury.

How does Woodward's testimony help Libby? It doesn't.

14. I'm surprised Libby's lawyers would even try that!
They know the charges against Libby are not about who outed Plame. They are directly related (though) to what Libby said during the investigation.

As Fitzgerald himself said, he would much rather have come to a conclusion a year ago but due to people trying to cloud the investigation (like Libby for one), that made it much harder to find the truth.

17. Are Libby's lawyers being political and not zealously representing
Libby? Would that be grounds for appeal and would Libby be on the street for years?

21. I know!
What's up with that? Why would Woodward hold out with this kind of information, and for so long?

That crack he made about this case being a matter of idle chatter, now that we know he was part of the chatter-chain, well, it makes me sad.
