VA AG race down to 347 vote difference
While McDonnell (r) quickly declared victory last week when he had a 1700 vote margin, and announced that he'll move into the transition office next Wednesday, there will likely be a recount and hopefully another Democratic victory. It would be great if Deeds (D) would pull ahead, then the repub, ironically, would be screaming for a recount and packing to leave the transition office with his tail between his legs.

2. Why would there not be a runoff?
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 07:25 AM by Gman
Why would there not be a runoff as no one got 50%+1 of the votes? Does Virginia allow a plurality rather than a majority?

R F McDonnell Republican 970,857 49.96%
R C Deeds Democratic 970,510 49.94%
Write Ins 1,795 0.09%

Run off? I have never heard of one in Va. I have no idea if that is on the books or not.

4. no run off here in VA
unfortunately.

strict plurality.

I sure hope Deeds pulls it out because McDonnell is a Robertson Repug from VA Beach. Very creepy.

5. One pattern fits all
1. Republican shows very narrow lead after vote count finished, Republican declares victory, attacks anyone who suggests the need for recount.
2. Recount narrows lead
3. Democrat wins after recount
4. Republican attacks anyone who opposes his demand for a recount
