If we hadn't gone to Iraq, Katrina victims would be safe through Winter
We have now allocated upward of $300 billion for the Iraq war. Furthermore, the war in Iraq has led to the largest increase in the price of oil in history, causing economic issues back home. And because our National Guardsmen were used up "over there", they could not do their job "over here" to help get victims out of danger and to safety.

Now we have thousands of Katrina victims who have lost everything and can not yet return home (or never will because their homes have been completely destroyed). They are being temporarily housed in hotels across the nation, and just in the last week, they've been told they have to leave by December 1st.

I've never lost "everything" before, but I'm fairly certain it takes more than two and a half months to recover from, especially when the gov't has only provided a temporary shelter for you and your family.

The $300 billion spent in Iraq could be used right now to continue to help these people get back on their feet. The manpower being invested in rebuilding Iraq could be used right now to rebuild New Orleans. Instead, just before Christmas, American Citizens including the elderly, the sick, women and children, who by no fault of their own, are going to be thrown on the street. This is WORSE than our governments LACK OF RESPONSE to the Katrina disaster. This is absolutely UN-AMERICAN, HEARTLESS and DERELICTION OF DUTY. AMERICANS SHOULD BE OUTRAGED and we should be calling our congressmen to object to this treatment of our fellow citizens.
