FYI: Presidential Approval Ratings lower than B*
I was curious where the Chimpster in Chief stacks up against other low approval ratings. Here's what I found for presidential lows:

Ford: 37,
Johnson 35,
Reagan 35, (Iran Contra)
H Bush 32,
Nixon 24, (Watergate)
Carter 21 (Recession)

Now, there's something to be proud of.

I'd be curious how the DU historians would assign explanations to this. Nixon is obvious, Carter's recession brought his polls down. Iran-Contra probably hurt Reagan. Anyone want to give us a one word reason for these? I already know B*'s: IRAQ.

7. Thanks. That's what I thought, but I'm no historian. Very interesting.
I think this is no oversimplification.

It's interesting that Iraq has gotten B* into the same waters as Viet nam and watergate. It is even more interesting that to get to Carter's all time low, you have to be both hyper christian and in charge when everyone looses their jobs.

I remember people hating Carter's softness. He wasn't enough of a cowboy. He didn't tell us whatever lies we wanted to hear, or evoke a magic crystal ball to wave away our economic problems. He was too honest to do that.

Thanks, Birthmark.

3. Thanks for posting
I really did not recall that Carter had gone so long. I remember that the Corporate media made fun of him and that hurt him. Remember how he was ridiculed about the rabbit that went after his rowboat? It was stupid. They also ridiculed him because he wore a sweater when he gave a speech regarding the energy crisis.
So while I think the recession and the huge deficits left over from Vietnam played a role in his low ratings, the media hurt him too.

8. I remember that, too. He was seen as less-than-scrappy.
We want our Rambo, Rocky, Terminator. It's also why Kerry couldn't quite get far enough past the polls to prevent B* from rigging them.

4. If Bush were president during the late 70s
He would have just started a war, to distract people from the recession and to get a boost from the constant promoting of "patriotism" by "Supporting Your President and the troops
