Incident at work.
The fundie co-worker, Kevin, was offended by my wallpaper yesterday, so he wrote an e-mail to management (haven't seen it) complaining about it and so my supervisor and I (both liberals) decided that we would not talk politics when Kevin was around, and I agreed to not put offending wallpaper on my desktop anymore. So I put a very nice US flag on my desktop instead. I love our Country, but hate what the righties have done to the shining light on the hilltop. Anyhoo that apparently was too much for rightie co-worker (you know liberals hate our country) so after lunch the ruling came down. From now on all personal pics and screen savers are banned at our company.

Who's fault is all this, mine for putting the wallpaper on my desktop yesterday, or Kevin's for his wonderful e-mail to management?

Here is the wallpaper, which after working next to this guy for a year finally pushed his buttons too much.

1. Ha! Funny that the wallpaper made your co-worker upset.
I guess he sees himself in that somehow.

4. Nicely done,
too bad you couldn't keep it posted. I wouldn't sweat about whose fault it is. I think Kevin is clearly in the wrong for being such a whiny, little bitch.

7. Maybe Kevin's letter was like this?

------------------------

Dear Boss,

Jhuth has a screensaver implying that Jesus loves everyone, especially the little children.

As a rightwingnut, this deeply offends me because I know Jesus hates queers and mexicans, loves guns and 'Murika.

Please make him take down his screensaver. Waaaaah.

Your whiniest little biatch employee,
Kevin

5. "You can't love Murka!"
"Rush done said ya don't and he never lies!!"

Kevin is to blame. You accomodated him within reason, and it still wasn't good enough for him.

You have my sympathy, working with people like that is an easy path to constant depression and anger.

9. I guess the question you have to ask yourself
is if he had some RW garbage on his, would YOU have complained?

If not, then he's a butt and he won this one by being a butt. Sometimes butts win.

13. HELL NO..I don't care what he puts up on his.
Nunna my business. He as an American has a right to his opinion. It's that important value that is being censored by the Right (invitation only stump speeches, for example).

10. Superglue him to his seat, it's the Home Depot 'Murican way
You pushed his Winger button big time, and he had no retort except to hinder your Freedom of Speech. I'd have called the Mungo Brothers and their cousins the Bizerko Twins to give him a history lesson in the 1st Amendment.

19. Yesh I did. I avoided all easily too controversial wallpapers
that you can easily find on line. Occasionally I stepped over the line with hitler references etc, but it's insightful that it was that one that now has ramifications that have forever changed a large company. That was more offending than this???

I ran this one for a week!

22. So it was just a flag that incensed him after that? What a wingnut.
I have a screensaver that runs a slide show of every toon I've saved off of DU, plus pics of the Chimp being an ass. No one has complained, but then I'm lucky to work in San Francisco, where even the conservatives are liberals.

23. Yah freedom of speech rules.
Edited on Wed Nov-16-05 07:58 PM by jhuth
Legally an employer can ban ALL speech in any form. The threat would be horrible if outside the workplace views begin to be censored. The California Church that is having it's tax exempt status threatened is the most frightening example of censorship I've heard lately.

Consider all the pro-war messages sent by the church, how many churches do that, and how brazenly they shout it, there are tax offenses in every state in what used to be our shining light on the hill.

We as a Nation have become obscene in the eyes of the world.

26. Wanna hear my incident at work today?
I only talk politics with the other lefties. I never take on anyone or try to prostletize. But, anyway, someone asked me about thanksgiving and I said it was really just an excuse to eat too much. They said, "But, aren't you full of patriotism on thanksgiving? and I said I wasn't too proud of the war my country is waging.

Well, that did it. Someone who is usually not informed, or inclined to get into politics, ripped me up for talking politics.

I didn't use the word republican. I never do. I just said I didn't like the war.

She went off on "stop talking about politics and just be happy....." In other words, "leave me alone in my oblivion."

She was really hurt. I think the veneer is cracking, and people are having that heartbreaking loss of pride in their country. So, it's too much to hear someone say plainly that they're not proud of their country. It hurts too much.

Riiiiiiiiip. That's the sound of the country's heart breaking. Their beloved america is nothing special. We're war profiteers, like any third rate dictatorship. We don't live up to our own creeds. Ouch.
