Walter Jacobson's Perspective--I'm so bitter!
Does anyone ever watch the *local* Fox News in Chicagoland. Walter Jacobson just finished a piece on Sam Alito and the abortion issue. According to Walter, the Democrats should stop focusing only on the abortion issue, and focus on his other qualifications. Walter went on to say something like, "Bush won the election fair and square. It is in the constitution that he has every right to elect all members of his cabinet. If you don't like it, tough."

I used to like Walter Jacobson's Perspective. Now I'll never watch it again. x(

1. Walter jumped the shark

...a long time ago. I think the last time I watched him he was still with Bill Kurtis (sp).

Cheers!

2. Yeah, that's the attitude. I also take issue with the "fair and square"
part. Oh, and that ~Walter~ has any right to tell anyone how relevant the abortion issue is.

3. Walter was "retired" and had to become a Faux retread or go.
This seemed to have followed his legal problems. I think he beat DUI charges but seems to have turned quite bitter.

4. I disagree with the last sarcastic statement you quoted, but I do
agree with his comments about Alito. We must look at the whole package. Like it or not the elected Pres gets the choice of who gets nominated. Now, putting the argument of stolen elections aside, the theory is that the elected Pres represents the will of the majority. If he chooses an anti-abortion judge because he thinks that is what his majority wants, we are responsible for making a decision to vote for or against based on his total record. The only way to ensure that a judge is placed on the court that represents your view is to get your guy elected. Unfortunately that is reality whether we like it or not.

6. It's just wrong -- constitutionally inaccurate
The Senate is supposed to help out big time -- by advising and consenting. He doesn't get a goddamned rubber stamp, else why bother with the Senatorial piece at all? The confirmation hearings were never intended as some meaningless ritual that looks nice but has no substance or real purpose.

7. First of all, Supreme Court Justices aren't cabinet members
That is, they don't have to leave town when Chimpy finally has to get his carcass out of our Oval Office. Supreme Court Justices continue to sit on the high court for years after the presidents who appointed them have left office. We only recently got rid of Nixonite William Rehnquist who fouled our country's jurisprudence for decades.

By the way, Mr. Jacobson, it's also in the constitution that the Senate has the affirmative duty to advise the president and consent to his appointments. Just because the Senate has been derelict in that duty for the last five years, giving us such incompetents as Michael Brown at FEMA, is no reason they have to continue lying down on the job.

Alito's problems are far bigger than his cultish view of abortion, including the undisputed fact that he lied during his last confirmation hearing. Nominees are under oath, Mr. Jacobson. Why don't you write about Alito's sworn statement that he would recuse himself from any litigation involving Fidelity, a company in which he had extensive investment holdings, and his reversal once he had his lifetime appointment in ruling on cases involving Fidelity?

Corrupt much, Walter?

13. Greetings
No, I'm not in Chicago, but I will begin working next week for a satellite office of a Chicago law firm. Feel free to lift any of my points wholesale and send them on to Mr. Jacobson, with my compliments.

8. Pathetic. If Alito was in the cabinet that would be one thing.
This is a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. One kind of a doofus would make that mistake?

Secondly, the Congress has the right to reject any nominee by a president for whatever reasons they choose.

Jacobson is an idiot.
